{"id":322505,"date":"2026-02-02T08:45:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T08:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=322505"},"modified":"2026-02-03T08:01:25","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T08:01:25","slug":"2-million-ukrainians-evading-mobilization-another-200000-soldiers-awol-new-defense-minister-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=322505","title":{"rendered":"2 million Ukrainians evading mobilization, another 200,000 soldiers AWOL, new defense minister says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Above, Mykhailo Fedorov, newly appointed Ukrainian Defense Minister<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Asami Terajima \u2013 Kyiv Independent Jan 14, 2026<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Two million Ukrainians are wanted for evading mobilization, and another 200,000 soldiers are absent without official leave (AWOL), Ukraine&#8217;s new Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/censor_net\/status\/2011384465390518380?s=46&amp;t=xwg-EDf8sFFpLGeIwpWXNg\"><strong>said<\/strong><\/a> on Jan. 14.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in parliament where he was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/parliament-appoints-mykhailo-fedorov-as-defense-minister\/\">appointed<\/a><\/strong> to his new role, Fedorov stressed the importance of addressing the current problems in the army so Ukraine can start moving forward, such as conducting an analysis of commanders&#8217; effectiveness rather than making decisions based on their ranks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today, we cannot fight with new technologies, with an old organizational structure,&#8221; Fedorov said in an address aired on television.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our goal is to change the system, carry out army reforms, improve the infrastructure on the front, to eradicate lies and corruption, to instil leadership, and a new culture of trust.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The rare report on the number of Ukrainians evading mobilization or soldiers who have gone AWOL comes as Ukraine faces a <a href=\"https:\/\/kyivindependent.com\/behind-ukraines-manpower-crisis-lies-a-bleak-new-battlefield-reality-for-infantry\/\"><strong>critical manpower shortage<\/strong><\/a>, with infantry units especially struggling more than ever to refill the heavy losses.<\/p>\n<p>Exhausted from fighting for nearly four years of full-scale war with barely any breaks, many soldiers have opted to go AWOL or desert, which are criminal offenses punishable by <a href=\"https:\/\/mod.gov.ua\/en\/news\/step-by-step-procedure-for-service-members-wishing-to-return-to-duty-after-an-absence-without-leave-awol\"><strong>imprisonment<\/strong><\/a> of five to 12 years during wartime.<\/p>\n<p>Deliberately evading mobilization is also in the Criminal Code of Ukraine, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/zakon.rada.gov.ua\/laws\/show\/en\/2341-14#Text\">punishable<\/a><\/strong> by imprisonment of three to five years in wartime.
