A squadron of American spy planes has been spotted at a UK airbase as global tensions around Venezuela<\/a>, Russia<\/a> and Greenland<\/a> increase.<\/p>\n The 99th Reconnaissance Squadron, equipped with critical intelligence gathering machinery, were seen at\u00a0RAF<\/a>\u00a0Fairford\u00a0in Gloucestershire<\/a> today.<\/p>\n The squadron\u2019s mission is to \u2018deploy and employ warrior Airmen and execute effective and sustained U-2 operations globally in support of National Objectives.\u2019<\/p>\n Fairford\u00a0has long hosted United States Air Force personnel, but onlookers say the last few days have seen a drastic surge in activity.<\/p>\n Earlier today, F-35 jets were spotted taking off from RAF Mildenhall as US planes amass in the UK. Images taken at Fairford on Monday showed several US Air Force C-17 aircraft \u2013 typically used for heavy transport of equipment and personnel.<\/p>\n No 10<\/a> said it would not comment on speculation or the uses of British military bases by third parties.<\/p>\n The large gathering of planes comes amid rumours of a US takeover of Greenland and as American forces intercepted an oil tanker that historically carried Venezuelan crude oil.<\/p>\n The US European Command, headquartered in Germany<\/a>, confirmed today the seizure of the Marinera for \u2018violations of US sanctions\u2019.<\/p>\n It said in a statement on\u00a0X<\/a>: \u2018The vessel was seized in the North Atlantic pursuant to a warrant issued by a US federal court after being tracked by USCGC Munro.\u2019<\/p>\n The US seized another shadow\u00a0fleet tanker, Sophia, in the Caribbean Sea in the early hours of this morning, with authorities saying that it was carrying oil from Venezuela<\/p>\n Trump is also reportedly considering using the military to take over\u00a0Greenland<\/a>.<\/p>\n Washington has said that Trump has been discussing \u2018a range of options\u2019 to acquire the island home to 56,000 people.<\/p>\n Trump has repeatedly insisted that Greenland, a semiautonomous Danish territory, rightfully belongs to the US.<\/p>\n But Denmark\u00a0has stressed that the sparsely populated island<\/a>\u00a0is not for sale.<\/p>\n Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen\u00a0warned it could spell the end of Nato \u2013\u00a0a mutual-defence alliance whose members include the UK, the US and European powers<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and upend the Russia-Ukraine war.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/F35.jpg\")
