Okay, who had \u201cthe US invades Venezuela and kidnaps the President\u201d down as the first big story of 2026?<\/p>\n

Well done if you did, you probably got good odds.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the \u201cbreaking news\u201d as of about two hours ago:<\/p>\n

Venezuela President Maduro captured after US strike and will face drugs and weapons charges
\nCNN<\/a><\/p>\n

The story is that a meticulously planned special forces raid resulted in Nicolas Maduro and his wife being dragged from their bedroom and whisked out of the country. They are reportedly en route to New York on a US naval ship.<\/p>\n

This was foreshadowed late last year, when laughable stories about the US Special Forces \u201crescuing\u201d Venezuelan \u201copposition leader\u201d Mar\u00eda Corina Machado. The Nobel Peace laureate (ha!) was said to be \u201cin hiding\u201d before that, in fear of the Maduro regime.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a ridiculous story, but we live in the age of ridiculous stories.<\/p>\n

In terms of reaction, the predictable people from each side are having their pre-programmed reactions. There\u2019s going to be a lot of talk about sovereignty and the greater good in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

\u2026but I can\u2019t help but feel this is just another story designed to set a meta-narrative.<\/p>\n

The US is going to heel turn and take down the notion of national interests and \u201cold-fashioned individualism\u201d in the process. Since it\u2019s about oil, we\u2019ll be told this is one more reason to focus on renewable energy, and that climate change is making warfare more likely and is thus an international security emergency.<\/p>\n

People who die in \u201cclimate or energy conflicts\u201d will be added to the \u201cclimate-related deaths\u201d statistics.<\/p>\n

And you know what would stop things like this from happening?<\/p>\n

Global government.<\/p>\n
