A senior Iranian lawmaker said on Wednesday that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had lifted all limits to the range of Iran\u2019s missiles, signalling a potential major shift to Tehran’s defense posture after a punishing June war.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Islamic Republic has developed and will continue to develop its missile program to any extent it deems necessary,\u201d said Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani, a member of parliament\u2019s national security committee.<\/p>\n

While Khamenei had previously capped missile range at 2,200 kilometers, he has now \u201cremoved any such limitation,\u201d he asserted, adding that Tehran will accept \u201cno limits on missile range,\u201d which he described as its \u201cmost important element of military power.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hardline members of Iran’s fractious parliament often make hawkish statements that do not ultimately reflect policy from the theocracy’s highest echelons, but it is rare of MPs to specifically invoke Khamenei in their remarks.<\/p>\n

Bakhshayesh\u2019s assertion came a day after Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Israel of lying about Tehran\u2019s ambitions<\/a> to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles in order to deceive Washington.<\/p>\n

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US podcaster Ben Shapiro that Iran was developing missiles with an 8,000-kilometer range<\/a>, capable of hitting major American cities including New York, Boston, Washington, and Miami.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael \u2026 finally managed to deceive the U.S. into attacking the Iranian people,\u201d Araghchi wrote on X, referring to Israeli and American strikes on Iran in June.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the failure of that action, Israel is now trying to make an imaginary threat out of our defense capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

‘Not on the table’<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On Tuesday, another senior Iranian official also rejected the idea of limiting Iran\u2019s missile program, saying Washington\u2019s proposal to cap missile range was unacceptable.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmericans will take the wish of reducing Iran\u2019s missile range to below 500 kilometers to the grave,\u201d Armed Forces Judiciary chief<\/a> Ahmadreza Pourkhaghan said during a meeting with Revolutionary Guard aerospace commanders.<\/p>\n

He added that Iran is prepared to negotiate over its nuclear program but \u201cwill not hold any talks\u201d about missiles.<\/p>\n

Tehran’s security chief Ali Larijani confirmed last month that Washington had floated the idea to limit Iran’s missiles’ range.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo honorable person would accept such a condition,\u201d Larijani said in response.<\/p>\n
