We took the gloves off from the first minute,\u201d <em>The Guardian<\/em> reported on Friday, quoting retired general Herzi Halevi as saying recently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot once has anyone restricted me. Not once,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Those refusing to put a check on the army\u2019s aggression, he added, included advocate general Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the so-called top legal authority within the regime\u2019s armed forces.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the advocate general would issue restrictive orders, he \u201chasn\u2019t the authority to restrict me,\u201d the former commander said.<\/p>\n<p>The remarks fly directly in the face of the regime\u2019s claims that its incessant attacks \u201ccomply\u201d with the international law.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u201810%-plus of Gaza\u2019s population killed, injured\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>According to Halevi, the war has so far led to the death or injury of more than 200,000 Palestinians, a figure that resembles data from Gaza\u2019s health ministry.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Genocide in Gaza: Entire family killed in latest Israeli strikes on Gaza <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/r2RDolKKcV\">https:\/\/t.co\/r2RDolKKcV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Press TV \uf53b (@PressTV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PressTV\/status\/1966494735922557247?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 12, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The casualties, he added, equal \u201cmore than 10% of Gaza\u2019s 2.2 million population.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ministry\u2019s latest figures show that the genocide has so far claimed the lives of more than 64,750 Palestinians, mostly women and children.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of the victims have perished due to the regime\u2019s near-total siege of the territory that runs concomitantly with its incessant bombardments of the densely-populated coastal sliver.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u203c\ufe0f INFOGRAPHIC: Gaza\u2019s starvation crisis reaches breaking point as less than a single day\u2019s food arrives in over a month.<\/p>\n<p>Follow: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mLGcUTS2ei\">https:\/\/t.co\/mLGcUTS2ei<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OdXTAMRcdj\">pic.twitter.com\/OdXTAMRcdj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Press TV \uf53b (@PressTV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PressTV\/status\/1965128001189827040?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 8, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Thousands of others are, meanwhile, unaccounted for, feared to have either been trapped under the rubble or subjected to forced disappearance.<\/p>\n<p>The regime, though, often dismisses the ministry\u2019s casualty figures.<\/p>\n<p>Leaked Israeli military intelligence has also suggested that more than 80 percent of the fatalities were civilians, contrary to Tel Aviv\u2019s claim of exercising care not to target non-combatants.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Kill first, justify later<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The general went on to suggest that the regime would first go ahead with committing illegal aggression, and then seek to throw an aura of justification and legality around it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will know how to defend this legally in the world, and this is very important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Israeli human rights lawyer Michael Sfard, the remarks confirmed that military lawyers acted as simple \u201crubber stamps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The regime\u2019s <em>Ha\u2019aretz<\/em> newspaper recently reported that Halevi\u2019s successor, Eyal Zamir had also ignored Tomer-Yerushalmi\u2019s so-called advice to delay implementation of mass displacement orders across the Gaza City.<\/p>\n<p>The city, the Gaza Strip\u2019s largest urban area, is subject to the Israeli military\u2019s most ferocious assault yet throughout the genocide.
