Muhbeen Hussain, who threatened Muslims with being \u2018boycotted\u2019 by the Muslim community in Rotherham if they cooperated with South Yorkshire Police\u2019s inquiries into the grooming gangs operating in the northern town, has been awarded an MBE for \u201cservices to integration\u201d and \u201ccohesion\u201d. The Express<\/em> has more<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It is not known who nominated Muhbeen Hussain for the gong after he previously called on Muslims in Rotherham to \u201ctake all the necessary action to protect ourselves\u201d and sever ties with local law enforcement.<\/p>\n

Mr Hussain made the call in October 2015, just a year after it was revealed police had failed to investigate thousands of\u00a0allegations of abuse and rape of children and young girls<\/a>\u00a0in the former mining town. At the time his campaign group warned: \u201cAny Muslim groups or institutions in Rotherham that do not adhere to this policy of disengagement will also be boycotted by the Muslim community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to the\u00a0BBC\u00a0when he was pushing for the boycott, Mr Hussain said there was an attempt to \u201cscapegoat\u201d Muslims and that the police had failed to protect the community from the far-Right.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s since been admitted by senior former government figures<\/a>\u00a0that some departments and local agencies did not want to reveal the scale of the grooming scandal to journalists.<\/p>\n

Months earlier an inquiry by Alexis Jay found with Rotherham social services \u201cthere was a widespread perception that messages conveyed by some senior people in the council and also the police, were to \u2018downplay\u2019 the ethnic dimensions of [child sexual exploitation]\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mr Hussain now runs the allparty parliamentary group on British Muslims. He holds a House of Commons pass sponsored by Naz Shah, the MP for Bradford West. Mr Hussain\u2019s MBE for \u201cpolitical services to integration cohesion and to British society\u201d was announced last month.<\/p>\n
