NATO is expanding its military activities near NATO’s borders, claims the Wall Street Journal. Of course, the reverse is true but this is how the powers that be and their subservient media want us to think.<\/p>\n

They want the Western public to see Russia as a threat.<\/p>\n

So while NATO has been steadily advancing eastwards \u2013 through East Germany, Poland<\/a>, Hungary<\/a> and Romania<\/a> \u2013 toward Russia\u2019s Western borders, they want us to see Moscow as a looming menace.<\/p>\n

When in fact through artful diplomacy and shifting alliances NATO has been steadily advancing eastwards.<\/p>\n

This is why Moscow has insisted that Ukraine renounce any plans it had to join NATO. The Kremlin sees the way things are moving and that is why Putin has ordered the expansion of Russia\u2019s army. He wants it ready to defend Russia\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n

What follows is an example of the Western media’s double-think strategy. This is probably best exemplified by how some elements in the media would also have us believe that some woman have penises. Ed.<\/p>\n

Russia is intensifying military preparations near NATO borders by expanding bases and increasing the size of its army, reported the “Wall Street Journal.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>What you need to know<\/p>\n

-> Russia is expanding military bases<\/strong>\u00a0in Petrozavodsk, about 160 kilometres from the border with Finland, as part of preparations for a\u00a0potential conflict with NATO.<\/p>\n

-> The Kremlin is increasing the size of its army<\/strong>\u00a0to 1.5 million soldiers and raising military spending to 6\u00a0per cent of GDP.<\/p>\n

-> The new military infrastructure<\/strong>\u00a0includes storage facilities and quarters for soldiers, as well as the modernisation of railway lines along the borders with Finland and Norway.<\/p>\n

What are Russia’s plans in the region?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Russia is intensifying its military activities near NATO borders, causing concern among neighbouring countries. The “Wall Street Journal” reports that the Kremlin is expanding military bases in Petrozavodsk, just about 160 kilometres from the border with Finland.<\/p>\n

These actions, according to many observers, are part of a\u00a0broader strategy of preparation for a\u00a0potential conflict with NATO. “When the troops return (from Ukraine), they will look across the border at a\u00a0country they consider an adversary,” said Ruslan Pukhov, director of the Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies.<\/p>\n

Russia increases the size of the army<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Vladimir Putin has issued an order to increase the size of the army to 1.5 million soldiers, a\u00a0significant increase compared to the state before the invasion of Ukraine, when the army numbered about a\u00a0million soldiers. The Kremlin is also raising military spending from 3.6 per cent of GDP to 6\u00a0per cent.<\/p>\n

“The Russian army is bigger today than at the beginning of the war,”<\/strong>\u00a0noted General Christopher Cavoli, commander of US forces in Europe.<\/p>\n

What are the consequences for NATO?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Russia is not only increasing the size of its forces but also modernising military infrastructure in the region. New railway lines are being built along the borders with Finland and Norway, and existing routes are being expanded.<\/p>\n

We see that the military is becoming a\u00a0new kind of elite,<\/strong>\u00a0assessed Daivis Petraitis from the Baltic Defence College. Officers on NATO’s eastern flank expect that Russia will try to deter Europe from increasing tensions.<\/p>\n
