Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned in a new interview that a potential war with Iran would be \u201cmuch messier\u201d and \u201cmore complex\u201d than military engagements the American people have seen reported in recent years.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny military action at this point in the Middle East, whether it\u2019s against Iran by us or anybody else, could in fact trigger a much broader conflict,\u201d Rubio said in an interview with The Free Press<\/a> published Wednesday.<\/p>\n Rubio said the hypothetical conflict \u201cwill not be the sort of thing that people have become accustomed to watching on television, which is, a couple of drones got shot down, but we took out a hundred fighters or whatever.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis will be more complex,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Rubio said President Trump is committed to staying out of an armed conflict and said that\u2019s why he\u2019s directed officials to jumpstart nuclear talks with Iran.<\/p>\n \u201cAny sort of armed conflict in the region is going to be much messier than what people are used to seeing. And that\u2019s why the president is so committed to the peaceful resolution, the prevention of an armed conflict. Although he reserves every right to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, he is for peace. He has said that repeatedly. And that\u2019s why we want to end the war in Ukraine, if that\u2019s possible,\u201d Rubio said.<\/p>\n The remarks come after The Free Press\u2019s Bari Weiss asked the secretary about former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson\u2019s assertion that a strike on Iran\u2019s nuclear facilities would \u201calmost certainly result in thousands of American deaths at bases throughout the Middle East, and cost the United States billions of dollars. \u2026 Those aren\u2019t guesses. Those are the Pentagon\u2019s own estimates. A bombing campaign against Iran will set off a war, and it will be America\u2019s war.\u201d<\/p>\n
