Former UK Prime Minister and war criminal Tony Blair<\/a>, or Tony B-liar as he is often referred to, is urging current Labour Party leader Keir Starmer to implement a digital ID regime.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Blair believes this will help \u201cflush out\u201d anti-mass migration populists by forcing them to choose between their rhetoric and actual policy solutions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He thinks the public will trade privacy for efficiency, and the government will win the debate on digital IDs, which will also help address issues like immigration and benefit fraud.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Former Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair<\/a> wants his successor as British premier and Labour Party leader, Sir Keir Starmer<\/a>, to impose a digital ID regime, in part to \u201cflush out\u201d anti-mass migration populists.\u00a0\u201cWhat the populists do is they take a real grievance and they exploit it but they very often don\u2019t want to have a solution because solutions are much tougher than talking about problems,\u201d Blair said, adding: \u201cThe grievance would be on immigration<\/a> that the thing is out of control. The grievance would be on crime that we\u2019re not doing enough on it. So you say, \u2018OK, here\u2019s what you do\u2019. And then you have a big political fight. The populist is forced to choose. You\u2019ve got to create an agenda that the other side has to respond to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Right-wing populists do offer solutions to Britain\u2019s record-breaking<\/a> mass migration influx\u2014for example, simply capping visas issued at a set level\u2014but in an interview<\/a> with The Times<\/em>, Blair implies they have no proposed policy fixes and that digital ID can fill this gap.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are putting in place the building blocks for it, so that\u2019s good. But we should embrace it fully and roll it out as soon as we can because it will have an immediate set of benefits,\u201d the Iraq War architect told the newspaper, which revealed he is in regular contact with Prime Minister Starmer and his Cabinet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be a big debate coming down the line\u2014and this is the political argument people should have\u2014which is: how much privacy are you prepared to trade<\/a> for efficiency? \u2026 My view is that people are actually prepared to trade quite a lot,\u201d he argued, adding: \u201cI think it\u2019s a political debate the government<\/a> will win. It will also flush out a lot of people who want to talk about issues like immigration or benefit fraud but don\u2019t actually will the means to get to the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blair governed for the better part of three terms, from 1997 to 2007, during which time he was voted the worst<\/a> living Briton. As Prime Minister, he attempted to impose physical ID cards on the population but faced massive pushback, with the British public<\/a> at that time unwilling to accept a communist-style \u201cpapers, please\u201d culture for\u2014supposedly\u2014the sake of national security.<\/p>\n
