US President Donald Trump spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos via teleconference on Thursday, just days after taking office. He used his speech to promise a \u201crevolution of common sense,\u201d<\/em> telling the audience of business leaders, policymakers, academics and innovators that he was acting \u201cwith unprecedented speed\u201d<\/em> to reverse the policies of his predecessor, Joe Biden.<\/p>\n

Here are some key takeaways from his speech.<\/p>\n

Stopping inflation<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Trump began by promising to confront the \u201ceconomic chaos\u201d<\/em> caused by Biden\u2019s \u201cfailed policies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past four years, our government racked up $8 trillion in wasteful deficit spending and inflicted nation-wrecking energy restrictions, crippling regulations and hidden taxes like never before,\u201d<\/em> Trump said.<\/p>\n

He stated that he has directed his cabinet to \u201cmarshal all powers at their disposal\u201d<\/em> to defeat inflation and reduce the cost of living. He also promised to pass \u201cthe largest tax cut in American history,\u201d<\/em> including \u201cmassive\u201d<\/em> reliefs for workers and families, as well as domestic producers and manufacturers.<\/p>\n

Ending the Ukraine conflict, meeting Putin<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Efforts to secure a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine are underway, Trump said, claiming that Kiev is \u201cready to make a deal.\u201d<\/em> He called the Ukraine conflict \u201can absolute killing field,\u201d<\/em> declaring it\u2019s \u201ctime to end it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Trump also reiterated that he is willing to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin \u201csoon\u201d<\/em> to discuss the situation.<\/p>\n

The US president pointed to China as being able to help end the conflict. \u201cThey have a great deal of power over that situation,\u201d<\/em> Trump told the forum, saying he envisioned a good relationship with Beijing.<\/p>\n

He also urged Saudi Arabia and OPEC to bring down global oil prices. \u201cIf the price came down, the Russia-Ukraine war would end immediately,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n

Nuclear reduction talks<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Trump said he would also hold talks with China and Russia on reducing nuclear stockpiles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to see if we can denuclearize, and I think that\u2019s very possible,\u201d<\/em> he said, adding that it would be \u201can unbelievable thing for the planet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Trump claimed that he spoke with Putin about reducing nuclear stockpiles during his first term and said China \u201cwould have come along.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Low taxes or high tariffs<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Trump issued a warning to businesses around the world: either make your product in the US or face tariffs.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy message to every business in the world is very simple. Come make your product in America, and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation on Earth,\u201d<\/em> he said. He vowed that taxes for businesses will be brought even lower than during his first term as president.<\/p>\n

If businesses choose not to manufacture their products in America, \u201cthen very simply you will have to pay a tariff,\u201d<\/em> Trump said. Tariffs on such products will \u201cdirect hundreds of billions of dollars and even trillions of dollars into our treasury to strengthen our economy and pay down debt,\u201d<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n

Energy emergency<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Trump said his declaration of a \u201cnational energy emergency\u201d<\/em> would help \u201cunlock the liquid gold\u201d<\/em> of oil under Americans\u2019 feet.<\/p>\n

He pointed to his termination of the \u201cridiculous and incredibly wasteful\u201d<\/em> Green New Deal, the US withdrawal from the \u201cone-sided\u201d<\/em> Paris Climate Accord, as well as the end of the electric vehicle mandate, as necessary steps to achieve his goals.<\/p>\n

Border Security<\/h2>\n

Trump hailed his executive order declaring a \u201cnational border emergency,\u201d<\/em> aimed at pushing back against illegal immigration.<\/p>\n

Active duty US military and National Guard troops have already been deployed to the border and are \u201crepelling the invasion,\u201d<\/em> he noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not allow our territory to be violated,\u201d<\/em> he declared.<\/p>\n

Two genders and no censorship<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u201cNo longer will our government label the speech of our own citizens as misinformation or disinformation,\u201d<\/em> Trump said, declaring that his executive order on censorship \u201csaved free speech in America.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

At the same time, Trump praised his order to \u201cabolish all discriminatory diversity, equity and inclusion nonsense.\u201d<\/em> He reiterated comments from his inauguration speech that it is official US policy that \u201cthere are only two genders, male and female.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe will have no men participating in women\u2019s sports, and transgender operations, which became the rage, will occur very rarely,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n
