Bird Flu was all set to be “the next pandemic” but has it missed the window?<\/h3>\n

Our third prediction for 2025 isn\u2019t exactly a crazy left-field pick: Bird Flu. It\u2019s going to happen. The question is when, and how much.<\/p>\n

The second half of 2024 was full of dire warnings that H5N1 was \u201cjust one mutation away\u201d<\/a> from human-to-human transmission<\/a> or articles bemoaning how little we learned from \u201cCovid\u201d<\/a> and how unprepared we are<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It very much felt like, after over two years of talking it up as the next big disease, Bird Flu was coming to a head.<\/p>\n

Then, just yesterday the press reported \u201cthe first official bird flu death\u201d<\/a>, the patient was over 65 with \u201cother pre-existing health conditions\u201d (sound familiar?).<\/p>\n

Does that mean we\u2019re about to get the \u201cnext pandemic\u201d they\u2019ve been talking about for so long?<\/p>\n

Maybe, maybe not. It\u2019s noteworthy that, despite the reported death, the hysteria still seems low-grade.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no real commitment to the story. The WHO is still describing<\/a> H5N1 as \u201cvery, very low risk\u201d<\/em> to humans. This is obviously true, but the truth only ever appears in WHO press releases by coincidence.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s starting to feel like \u201cBird Flu\u201d might have missed its window. They think they may have fizzled all the H5N1 momentum to the point that letting it die is the best option.<\/p>\n

That means a change in narrative architecture. A redirect is required. Instead of Bird Flu being \u201cthe next pandemic\u201d, it may be about to become a \u201cnear-miss pandemic\u201d, perhaps one that is artfully avoided by advancements in vaccine technology<\/a> or thorough screening. Well done us.<\/p>\n

It could be that two years of hype has smothered the bird flu brand in the cradle (nest?), so the \u201cnext pandemic\u201d will actually be some surprise newcomer \u2013 like whatever made-up nonsense is allegedly hitting China right now<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2026or maybe the black death<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Or maybe I\u2019m wrong, this is the calm before the storm, and the Bird Flu waves are about to break on the shores of 2025.<\/p>\n

Whatever direction it ends up taking, 2025 will be the climax of the Bird Flu narrative. If it hasn\u2019t become a full-blown thing by March, it likely never will.<\/p>\n

WILDCARD PREDICTION:<\/strong> Bird Flu or not, 2025 will see the first \u201c100-day vaccine\u201d, probably a nasal spray combi-vaccine for flu & something else. Its reported success may be credited with \u201cavoiding a second Covid\u201d or \u201csaving us from another lockdown\u201d.<\/p>\n
