{"id":301216,"date":"2024-12-31T07:00:31","date_gmt":"2024-12-31T07:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=301216"},"modified":"2025-01-01T08:52:46","modified_gmt":"2025-01-01T08:52:46","slug":"no-grounds-for-ending-ukraine-conflict-kremlin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=301216","title":{"rendered":"No grounds for ending Ukraine conflict \u2013 Kremlin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A U.S.-made Abrams tank captured by Russian forces in Sept 2024<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>RT.com \u2013 Dec 30, 2024<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Russian authorities do not believe that the fighting between Moscow and Kiev can be stopped at the moment, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.<\/p>\n<p>Peskov was asked by RIA-Novosti on Monday if there are currently any prerequisites for ending the Ukraine conflict.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesman gave a short but conclusive reply: <em>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He had reiterated last week that Russia <em>\u201cremains open to talks\u201d<\/em> to end the hostilities. <em>\u201cHowever, since there has been no progress in terms of Ukraine\u2019s readiness for negotiations, we are continuing with our [military] operation,\u201d<\/em> Peskov stressed.<\/p>\n<p>According to the spokesman, the dynamics on the battlefield <em>\u201care self-evident: we are on the advance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the fall of 2022, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree banning the Kiev government from any talks with Moscow. The legislation remains in force.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the conflict, Zelensky and his Western backers have been discussing his so-called \u2018peace formula,\u2019 which demanded that Russia withdraw from Crimea and the other territories claimed by Ukraine \u2013 the Donetsk and Lugansk People\u2019s Republics, and the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, which officially became part of the Russian state as a result of referendums in late 2022. It also called for Moscow to pay reparations and for the formation of a war crimes tribunal.<\/p>\n<p>Russian authorities have rejected this proposal as unacceptable, <em>\u201cdetached from reality\u201d<\/em> and a sign of Kiev\u2019s unwillingness to seek a diplomatic solution to the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Ukrainian leader has recently abandoned his talk of <em>\u201cvictory,\u201d<\/em> claiming instead that he wants a <em>\u201cjust peace,\u201d<\/em> coupled with security guarantees from the West in the form of NATO membership, with the status of the new Russian regions undetermined.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Washington Post reported, citing a senior member of Zelensky\u2019s government, that officials in Kiev are <em>\u201cstarting to believe\u201d<\/em> that the conflict with Russia will be resolved in 2025. The shift in attitude is a direct result of US President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s promise to put a swift end to the fighting once he returns to office, according to the paper.<\/p>\n<p>During his end-of-year press conference earlier this month, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow is open to negotiations with Kiev without any preconditions other than those already agreed in Istanbul in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>These terms involve a neutral, non-aligned status for Ukraine \u2013 prohibiting it from joining NATO \u2013 as well as restrictions on the deployment of foreign weaponry in the country.
