The background to the incident is still completely unclear \u2013 as is the possible\u00a0motive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The outlet claims that the man \u201chad been threatened with death for turning away from Islam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spiegel.de\/panorama\/justiz\/magdeburg-mutmasslicher-anschlag-auf-weihnachtsmarkt-was-ueber-den-todesfahrer-bekannt-ist-a-ac3fd67b-d089-48b4-afbd-ca51e73e5637\">The report <\/a>also claims that \u201cSPIEGEL research has shown that Taleb A. openly sympathized with the AfD online.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The AfD is the right wing populist party in Germany that is gaining massive support owing to its anti-immigration\/pro deportation stance.<\/p>\n<p>Der Spiegel claims that the perpetrator \u201chad been an activist for years, advising mainly women from Saudi Arabia about ways to escape from their country and running a website with information on the German asylum system.\u201d<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Der Spiegel is reporting this about the terrorist who ploughed the car into the Christmas market.
