By the \u2018Mussolini definition\u2019<\/a>, New Zealand is a fascist state, as are many others. But while in theory, such a country does not necessarily have<\/em> to be totalitarian, rule by corporate power does not sit well with people\u2019s idea of representative democracy.<\/p>\n

To be sustained, corporate power must therefore be concealed, courtesy of compliant media.<\/p>\n

This works well with people who can\u2019t fundamentally re-structure their worldview, but for independent minded \u2018conspiracy theorists\u2019, not so well.<\/p>\n

So how does the state deal with such people when they publicly question the official narrative? The usual thought-stopping \u2018conspiracy theorist\u2019 put-down isn\u2019t enough. They have to be intimidated into silence using a corrupt judiciary and compliant police.<\/p>\n

And there\u2019s plenty of evidence of this. The pursuit of the campaigning independent journalist Liz Gunn<\/a> and whistle blower Barry Young<\/a> are ominous harbingers. Gunn was convicted of \u2018assault\u2019 after lightly touching the arm of an official at Auckland Airport.<\/p>\n

Such events make it increasingly difficult to maintain the illusion of \u2018democracy\u2019. Once a sufficient number of people perceive that the velvet glove conceals a mailed fist, the situation can escalate out of control.<\/p>\n

The mailed fist paid a visit to Barry Young when, on Sunday Dec 3, 2023, his front door was broken down while he was out, and on his return home he was surrounded by eight armed police who tightly handcuffed him. So, what did this mild mannered, 56 year-old man actually do<\/em> that was so heinous?<\/p>\n

As the database administrator at Health New Zealand, his \u2018crime\u2019 was to divulge information that threatened the government\u2019s \u2018safe and effective\u2019 mantra. In an interview with campaigning journalist Liz Gunn, he said that the data showed that after injection, some mobile \u2018vaccination\u2019 centres had very high mortality within a year, which in some centres were as high as 30%.<\/p>\n

These charges were serious, and if Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora were actually concerned with New Zealanders\u2019 health, it should have immediately looked into them. But seemingly out of fear of what an investigation might reveal, it issued a blanket denial.<\/p>\n

So, how did the authorities and media handle the situation?<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll start with the charge of \u201cillegally accessing databases\u201d.<\/p>\n

Such an accusation is bizarre and indicative of desperation. He couldn\u2019t do his job without<\/em> accessing the database he had created. The \u2018illegality\u2019 evidently resulted not from \u2018accessing\u2019 the data, but from disclosing their nature, which threatened the moral integrity of Health New Zealand.<\/p>\n

In other words, blowing the whistle.<\/p>\n

Even more disturbing was the role played by the media after his arrest.<\/p>\n

Their statements can be described as falsehoods, misleading, irrelevant, self-contradictory, or smears.<\/p>\n

Falsehoods<\/h2>\n

According to Stuff<\/em> and other NZ media, Young used government data to spread vaccine misinformation<\/a>. Evidently, government information becomes \u2018misinformation\u2019 if it is contrary to the \u2018safe and effective\u2019 mantra.<\/p>\n

Misleading<\/h2>\n

Margie Apa, CEO of Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora , was reported in the media as saying that the whistleblower had \u201cno clinical background or experience with vaccine knowledge\u201d.<\/p>\n

So what? As a highly qualified statistician, analysing data was his job. Evaluating data doesn\u2019t require any <\/em>medical experience, any more than an actuary who uses data to find mortality trends needs medical experience. Observing numbers <\/em>of deaths is a skill completely different from determining the cause<\/em> of those deaths.<\/p>\n

Irrelevant<\/h2>\n

The Otago Daily Times<\/em> quoted Apa as saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe data, as published on an overseas site, appears to have been anonymised. Analysis of the released data is ongoing, but work so far has not found any National Health Index Numbers or personally identifiable information.\u201d<\/p>\n

This didn\u2019t prevent the ODT<\/em> from quoting a woman who was groundlessly upset by Young\u2019s disclosures:<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand that this man \u2026 [had] names taken from Health NZ\u2019s Invercargill records which would or could include mum and dad\u2019s, and I suspect he will have matched them against death notices and come to his own \u2013 completely wrong \u2013 conclusions,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n

The ODT knew that this woman\u2019s anger was baseless, but it didn\u2019t stop the newspaper from using it as ammunition.<\/p>\n

Self-contradictory<\/h2>\n

Dr Guy Hatchard reminded us that during the \u2018pandemic\u2019, New Zealanders were required<\/em> to make their vaccination status public through the \u2018vax-pass\u2019 system. So how can the Ministry maintain that vaccination privacy is an important requirement unless, as Hatchard pointedly says, such information \u201cis only private if you\u2019ve died\u201d.<\/p>\n

Smears<\/h2>\n

Since the media do not appear to consider accuracy to be part of their job, when all else fails, there\u2019s always the tried and tested thought-stopper, the \u2018conspiracy theorist\u2019 put-down, as the Otago Daily Times<\/a> and Stuff<\/a><\/em> repeatedly did.<\/p>\n

In passing, it\u2019s worth mentioning that the phrase \u2018conspiracy theory\u2019 was almost unknown until the CIA introduced it into the public lexicon<\/a> after people began to question the official \u2018lone gunman\u2019 narrative on the assassination of President Kennedy. It\u2019s now universally weaponised by the media to label anyone publicly doubting a government narrative.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s clear from the above that the New Zealand government and its media had nothing in their toolbox to counter Barry Young\u2019s disclosures. All Margie Apa could say to kiwis was:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe assure people there is no evidence whatsoever that vaccination is responsible for excess mortality in New Zealand.\u201d<\/p>\n

If she actually believed this, she was deluded. But if she knew it was untrue, a statement attributed to Josef Goebbels might come to mind:<\/p>\n

A lie told once remains a lie. A lie told a thousand times becomes the truth.<\/p>\n

But let\u2019s be charitable, and assume she believed her words were true. If that\u2019s the case, government data should confirm it. So why did Cairns News<\/a> report that NZ health officials had been \u2018in panic mode\u2019 by Barry Young\u2019s disclosures?<\/p>\n
