The FEMA supervisor who was fired after The Daily Wire revealed she directed disaster relief workers in Florida to \u201cavoid homes\u201d with signs advertising Donald Trump said on Tuesday that this was not an \u201cisolated\u201d incident, and is likely happening in disaster areas across the country.<\/p>\n

Marn\u2019i Washington said that FEMA has a widespread policy of avoiding \u201cpolitically hostile\u201d homes during an interview<\/a> with Roland Martin. She said that FEMA\u2019s suggestion that she made an independent decision to avoid certain homes is a mischaracterization, stating that it is agency policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cFEMA always preaches avoidance first and then de-escalation, so this is not isolated,\u201d Washington said. \u201cThis is a colossal event of avoidance not just in the state of Florida, but you will find avoidance in the Carolinas.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSenior leadership will lie to you and tell you that they do not know,\u201d Washington said.<\/p>\n

FEMA fired Washington on Saturday after The Daily Wire reported that whistleblowers said she directed them verbally and in a group chat to \u201cavoid homes advertising Trump\u201d when canvassing in Highlands County, Florida.<\/p>\n

FEMA told The Daily Wire on Friday that the guidance was an \u201cisolated incident\u201d and not approved by the agency.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe employee who issued this guidance had no authority and was given no direction to tell teams to avoid these homes and we are reaching out to the people who may have not been reached as a result of this incident.\u201d<\/p>\n

Washington said incident reports would substantiate incidents of avoidance because of \u201cpolitical hostility.\u201d She asserted that there was a \u201ccommunity trend\u201d of \u201chostility\u201d coming from people with Trump yard signs or flags in Lake Placid. She said some examples of hostility included people saying things like \u201cI don\u2019t like FEMA,\u201d \u201cYou\u2019re part of the Biden-Harris campaign,\u201d \u201cYou guys are lying to people,\u201d and \u201cYou\u2019re not helping people.\u201d In one specific example, Washington said some workers were told to \u201cdrain the swamp and some other kind of crazy statements.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFEMA\u2019s very well aware of the incidents that take place, not just with my crew, but with all the crews in the states,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Washington told Martin that her supervisors approved her avoidance of certain streets in Lake Placid. She showed a text message that she says was sent to a supervisor saying that one road was \u201cpolitically hostile\u201d and \u201cwe are not canvassing this street further.\u201d The supervisor reportedly responded, \u201cGreat decision. Thanks for the update.\u201d<\/p>\n

Federal<\/a> and state investigations<\/a> have been launched into FEMA to probe its policies for providing aid. FEMA has not responded to allegations from Washington, and did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

The Daily Wire has requested an interview with Washington.<\/p>\n
