Another U.S. official said the administration was a little less nervous about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/10\/02\/iran-israel-missile-attacks-response\" data-vars-link-text=\"Israel's plans\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/10\/02\/iran-israel-missile-attacks-response\" data-vars-content-id=\"2444b1e0-4472-4530-a33b-c04879c76832\" data-vars-headline=\"Biden and Netanyahu closer to consensus on Israel's plans to attack Iran\" data-vars-event-category=\"story\" data-vars-sub-category=\"story\" data-vars-item=\"in_content_link\">Israel&#8217;s plans<\/a> after the call.<\/li>\n<li>The senior Israeli official also said the gaps between the U.S. and Israel on the nature and scope of the attack had narrowed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Behind the scenes:<\/strong> U.S. officials said the Biden-Netanyahu call was the culmination of nearly two weeks of consultations between the Biden administration and the Israeli government since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/10\/01\/iran-missile-attack-israel\" data-vars-link-text=\"Iran launched around 180 missiles\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/10\/01\/iran-missile-attack-israel\" data-vars-content-id=\"2444b1e0-4472-4530-a33b-c04879c76832\" data-vars-headline=\"Biden and Netanyahu closer to consensus on Israel's plans to attack Iran\" data-vars-event-category=\"story\" data-vars-sub-category=\"story\" data-vars-item=\"in_content_link\">Iran launched around 180 missiles<\/a> at Israel in an attack that was largely thwarted.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On Wednesday, before the call between Biden and Netanyahu, a separate call took place between national security adviser Jake Sullivan and Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, U.S. officials said.<\/li>\n<li>The Sullivan-Dermer call was the most detailed discussion to date between the U.S. and Israel in terms of Israel&#8217;s plans.<\/li>\n<li>Biden and Netanyahu reaffirmed some of the understandings Sullivan and Dermer reached in their call, senior U.S. and Israeli officials say.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> State of play: <\/strong>The Israeli Security Cabinet convened on Thursday night local time for a briefing about the plans to attack Iran and about the understandings with the Biden administration, Israeli officials say.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Security Cabinet is likely to authorize Netanyahu and Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant to determine the timing of the attack.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s next:<\/strong> U.S. and Israeli officials say working-level consultations between the U.S. and Israel on the retaliation against Iran continued on Thursday and will continue in the coming days.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gallant may travel to Washington early next week to continue the discussions with Sullivan and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/10\/10\/biden-netanyahu-call-israel-attack-iran\"> Source\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is reportedly broad agreement on Israeli plans for a retaliatory strike on Iran.
