{"id":296440,"date":"2024-10-10T06:19:34","date_gmt":"2024-10-10T06:19:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=296440"},"modified":"2024-10-12T05:51:04","modified_gmt":"2024-10-12T05:51:04","slug":"cia-says-no-evidence-iran-has-decided-to-build-a-nuclear-weapon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=296440","title":{"rendered":"CIA Says No Evidence Iran Has Decided To Build a Nuclear Weapon"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Dave DeCamp \u2013 AntiWar.com Oct 8, 2024<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>CIA Director William Burns <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/no-evidence-iran-pursuing-nuclear-weapon-cia-director-says\">said Monday<\/a> that there\u2019s no evidence Iran has decided to build nuclear weapons, comments that come amid calls in the US and Israel for strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, we do not see evidence today that the supreme leader has reversed the decision that he took at the end of 2003 to suspend the weaponization program,\u201d Burns told the Cipher Brief security conference, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/investigations\/no-evidence-iran-rushing-build-nuclear-weapon-cia-director-says-rcna174004\">according to <em>NBC News<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2003, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a fatwa prohibiting the development of nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction. His predecessor, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, also <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.vn\/AJ0a1\">rejected the idea of starting a WMD program <\/a>while facing chemical attacks from a US-backed Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>Burns said that if Iran did move to make a nuclear weapon, US intelligence would likely be aware of the decision. \u201cI think we are reasonably confident that \u2014 working with our friends and allies \u2014 we will be able to see it relatively early on,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The CIA chief noted that Iran has increased uranium enrichment levels since the US withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, in 2018.
