In answer to public concern the new Labour government has promised to launch a spate of schemes to contain illegal immigration.<\/p>\n

Call me a cynic but over the past half-century successive governments, both Labour and Conservative, have announced similar measures to contain illegal immigration.<\/p>\n

In 1979, as part of her election manifesto Margaret Thatcher promised<\/a> to take\u201d firm action against illegal immigrants\u201d. Since then only more migrants have arrived to claim sanctuary and welfare payments.<\/p>\n

In fact, in 2009 Andrew Neather, a little known speechwriter for Blair, Straw and Blunkett, wrote:<\/p>\n

Immigration, \u2018didn\u2019t just happen; the deliberate policy of Ministers from late 2000\u2026was to open up the UK to mass immigration\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The objective was to \u201csocially re-engineer\u201d the country, he claimed.<\/p>\n

Now in the wake of rising public anger and recent riots the new Starmer government has pledged to deal with the issue:<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the betting that this will all amount to nothing and the above reports are simply an attempt to allay public concern over migration?<\/p>\n

The new Starmer government is in trouble. The recent riots have exposed mounting public anger and the government must be seen to be doing something to deal with the problem.<\/p>\n

Will this be sufficient to address mounting concern over immigration? We think not. After nearly half-a-century of unfulfilled promises, we suspect that the public will finally realize that they are being deliberately misled over immigration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

The question is: will they deliver?
