Sir Keir Starmer was asked \u201chow many more children\u201d will die as he left flowers at the\u00a0scene of the Southport knife attack.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister placed his own floral tribute among hundreds of others at a police cordon on Hart Street, and thanked the\u00a0emergency services workers who responded to the incident.<\/p>\n

The brief visit, which lasted barely two minutes, was marred by shouts from some members of the public.<\/p>\n

As the Prime Minister walked close by, a man said: \u201cHere\u2019s your photo opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another shouted: \u201cHow many more children? Our kids are dead and you\u2019re leaving already?\u201d<\/p>\n

A third man shouted: \u201cGet the truth out!\u201d, while\u00a0Serena Kennedy, the Merseyside Police Chief Constable, was asked why the alleged attacker had not been named, and whether he was on a \u201cwatch list\u201d.<\/p>\n

In a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, a man could be heard shouting: \u201cGo away, you\u2019re not wanted,\u201d<\/p>\n

Another woman said: \u201cI\u2019ve just found out my friend\u2019s nine-year-old daughter was killed, the person I\u2019ve held as a child, and you can\u2019t do s—.<\/p>\n

One woman called the Prime Minister a \u201cscumbag\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sir Keir, visiting the scene after speaking to media earlier, laid a wreath of pink and white flowers watched by dozens of members of the public and TV crews, reporters and photographers.<\/p>\n

He thanked emergency service workers, telling them: \u201cI hope you feel proud of the part that you played in the most difficult circumstances, to do what you could for those young lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to media during his visit, the Prime Minister said: \u201cI came here to pay my respects to the victims and families, who are going through raw pain and grief that most of us can\u2019t imagine.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t imagine, as a dad myself, to get a briefing from the chief constable and the emergency services about the ongoing investigation but, also, importantly, to have the opportunity to say to those that were responding yesterday from the emergency services, a personal thank you to them and to shake their hand, and to say that as Prime Minister, on behalf of the country, we are grateful for what they did.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey, of course, say that they will respond \u2013 they\u2019re professionals \u2013 to anything, but there\u2019s no pretending that what they had to respond to yesterday was ordinary. It was very, very difficult. They were absolutely professional. And it was important for me to come and say simple words \u2013 thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n
