{"id":289824,"date":"2024-06-20T13:47:49","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T13:47:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=289824"},"modified":"2024-06-22T05:35:07","modified_gmt":"2024-06-22T05:35:07","slug":"israel-army-spokesman-admits-hamas-cant-be-eliminated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=289824","title":{"rendered":"Israel Army Spokesman Admits Hamas Can\u2019t be Eliminated"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Defence Post \u2013 June 20, 2024<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Israel\u2019s top army spokesman said Wednesday that Hamas cannot be eliminated, prompting a knee-jerk reaction from the government which quickly reiterated it remains committed to the Palestinian militant group\u2019s destruction.<\/p>\n<p>More than eight months of war, sparked by Hamas\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedefensepost.com\/2023\/10\/09\/music-festival-attack-hamas\/\">unprecedented October 7 attack on Israel<\/a>, have failed to oust the Islamist militants from Gaza but have brought widespread devastation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo say that we are going to make Hamas disappear is to throw sand in people\u2019s eyes. If we don\u2019t provide an alternative, in the end, we will have Hamas,\u201d Rear Admiral <strong>Daniel Hagari<\/strong> told Israel\u2019s <em>Channel 13<\/em> broadcaster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHamas is an ideology, we cannot eliminate an ideology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His comments were quickly rebuffed by the office of Israeli Prime Minister <strong>Benjamin Netanyahu<\/strong>, whose cabinet has stated its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedefensepost.com\/2024\/05\/07\/israel-operational-control-rafah-crossing\/\">Gaza offensive<\/a> will not end until Hamas is defeated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe political and security cabinet headed by Prime Minister Netanyahu defined as one of the goals of the war the destruction of Hamas\u2019 military and governmental capabilities,\u201d his office said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe IDF is of course committed to this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a separate statement on its Telegram channel, the military clarified that Hagari had addressed Hamas \u201cas an ideology\u2026 and his statements were clear and explicit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny other claim is taking the statement out of context.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The October 7 attack that triggered the war resulted in the deaths of 1,194 people in Israel, mostly civilians, according to an <em>AFP<\/em> tally based on Israeli official figures.<\/p>\n<p>The militants also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedefensepost.com\/2023\/11\/22\/israel-hamas-agree-truce\/\">seized 251 hostages<\/a>.
