All Christian symbols will now be removed from public buildings in Warsaw.<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Steve Watson \u2013 modernity.news May 23, 2024<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>The \u2018progressive\u2019 mayor of Warsaw in Poland has drawn massive criticism for banning the display of religious symbols from all public buildings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rafa\u0142 Trzaskowski,\u00a0who was\u00a0re-elected for a second term as mayor last month, passed the decree last week, in the name of preventing \u2018discrimination\u2019 and to \u201crecognise and take into account social diversity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Given that Poland is an almost wholly Christian Catholic country, it basically means that no images of Christ or crosses are allowed at city hall and other state buildings.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Mayor of Warsaw Rafa\u0142 Trzaskowski has banned the display of religious symbols such as Christian crosses from the city hall and other public buildings. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rZET7n1rtK\">https:\/\/t.co\/rZET7n1rtK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Brussels Signal (@brusselssignal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brusselssignal\/status\/1791430967627755606?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 17, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In addition, all official events in the capital city must now be secular and not include any kind of prayer under the rule.<\/p>\n<p>Trzaskowski,\u00a0a deputy leader of the centrist Civic Platform (PO) party that forms the main part of Poland\u2019s coalition government, is following the guidance of\u00a0PO leader and now prime minister Donald Tusk who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/notesfrompoland.com\/2021\/08\/06\/tusk-calls-for-removing-crosses-from-polish-parliament-and-schools\/\">called for the removal of crosses<\/a>\u00a0from public buildings in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor appears to be positioning himself for the role of president under Tusk.<\/p>\n<p>Trzaskowski has claimed that\u00a0\u201cPoland is a secular state and Warsaw is its capital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who has been to Poland knows this is a complete inverse of reality. There are churches and Christian symbolism everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor further stated that public buildings should be a \u201cneutral place,\u201d and asserted that \u201cno one wants to combat any religion and that religious symbols will have their place when history is celebrated.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">They are shamelessly copying stupid things from America. How embarrassing.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1792955860504784921?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 21, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The ruling also includes a provision to force state employees to \u2018respect\u2019\u00a0the preferred pronouns of people identifying as non-binary and transgender, a vast minority in Poland.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling states that it state employees are encouraged to take account of those \u201cwhose appearance may differ from stereotypical ideas related to gender recorded in official documents,\u201d and, somewhat ironically, to \u201caddress him or her with the name or gender pronouns that he or she indicates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Opposition politician\u00a0Tobiasz Boche\u0144ski\u00a0has labelled\u00a0the mayor \u201ca fanatical leftist ideologue who is trying to introduce extreme leftist ideology to Warsaw, contrary to the legal order and customs prevailing in Poland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jaros\u0142aw Sellin, former deputy culture minister, further noted \u201cThese are the effects of electing extreme leftists to power. Trzaskowski formally is a deputy leader of a party that is part of a Christian Democratic movement, what an irony. I always have a cross on the desk in my office, which means that I could no longer work in Poland\u2019s capital city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move is so controversial in Poland given that religious symbols were previously banned under the communist regime of the Polish People\u2019s Republic, and only restored at the end of the 1980s with the collapse of the Soviet Union and communism in Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Opposition leader Jaros\u0142aw Kaczy\u0144ski has accused the Warsaw Mayor of \u201ctriggering a religious war,\u201d further charging that Tusk\u2019s party represents \u201ca European option to destroy religion and faith\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em>Your support is crucial in helping us defeat mass censorship.
