Iran and China’s defense chiefs discussed ways to enhance military cooperation, also conferring on regional issues.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani met\u00a0with his Chinese counterpart Dong Jun on the sidelines of the 21st meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defense Ministers in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Friday.<\/p>\n

Ashtiani hailed China’s stance on the ongoing developments in the region and its condemnation of Israel’s terrorist airstrike against Iran’s diplomatic premise in the Syrian capital of Damascus earlier this month.<\/p>\n

It is necessary for Iran and China to boost cooperation and convergence to solve security issues in the region and across the world, the Iranian defense chief said.<\/p>\n

On April 1, the Israeli regime carried out terrorist airstrikes on the consular section of Iran’s embassy in the Syrian capital, which killed two generals of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi\u00a0and General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, as well as five of their accompanying officers.<\/p>\n

In retaliation, the IRGC targeted the occupied territories on April 13 with a barrage of drones and missiles. The retaliatory strikes, dubbed Operation True Promise, inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied Palestinian territories.<\/p>\n

Iran, Russia sign MoU to strengthen security cooperation<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Iran and Russia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop bilateral relations\u00a0in the security sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Akbar Ahmadian and his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Patrushev,\u00a0put their signatures on the document, during a meeting on the sidelines of the 12th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues in St. Petersburg on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Under the MoU, Tehran and Moscow will work towards boosting their cooperation in various strategic areas.<\/p>\n

Iran and Russia, as two close and strategic allies, have over the past years deepened their ties in different fields, including security and defense, despite being under heavy Western sanctions.<\/p>\n

The 12th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues is being held in St. Petersburg on April 23-25, with the participation of delegates from 106 countries.<\/p>\n

In a video address to the event, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his county\u2019s readiness to forge close cooperation with all interested partners in ensuring global and\u00a0regional security.<\/p>\n

Undoubtedly, international terrorism remains one of\u00a0the\u00a0gravest threats of\u00a0the\u00a021st\u00a0century, he said, warning that radical groups and intelligence agencies of certain countries perpetrate terrorist attacks in a bid to destabilize sovereign states and fuel interethnic and\u00a0interreligious discord.<\/p>\n
