Netanyahu is fully aware that Israel faces a growing problem with Iran. However, unlike Gaza, Israel cannot deal with the Iranian problem alone. Netanyahu needs U.S. help.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because the Ayatollah has made developing a formidable air defence network a priority. He knew that the day would come when Iran would need a good air defense network. That time has arrived and Iran\u2019s air defenses are not something that Israel can handle by itself.<\/p>\n

That, we suspect, was the reasoning behind the attack on Iran\u2019s consulate in Damascus. It was a calculated provocation intended to elicit a bloody response.<\/p>\n

This could come in large scale Iranian drone and missile strikes on the Zionist state.<\/p>\n

If and when that happens, the senile dupe in the Oval Office can then be manipulated into ordering wide-ranging U.S. strikes on Iran, possibly with Israeli assistance.<\/p>\n

Or so the Zionist hardliners hope.<\/p>\n

However, whether it turns out that way remains to be seen. For example, six months ago Netanyahu pledged that Israel\u2019s ground offensive in Gaza would \u201ccrush and destroy\u201d<\/a> Hamas.<\/p>\n

Now, nearly six months later and Israel is hardly closer eliminating Hamas than it was in Oct. last year. Ed.<\/p>\n

Netanyahu vows to \u2018harm anyone\u2019 attacking Israel as fears of Iran strike grow<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Israeli prime minister said \u201cwhoever harms us, we will harm them\u201d after US intelligence officials warned that Tehran is preparing\u00a0a strike<\/a>\u00a0that could plunge the Middle East into a new war.<\/p>\n

Israeli jets carried out drills simulating a strike on Iran, local media reported, while Western and Arab diplomats scrambled to persuade the Islamic republic against military action.<\/p>\n

Elite Iranian forces based in Syria have moved into civilian hotels in anticipation\u00a0of Israeli blowback<\/a>, security sources told The Telegraph.<\/p>\n

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Israel\u2019s chief military spokesman, said civilians were not being told to make any special preparations but added that the country was \u201chighly prepared for a range of scenarios\u201d.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Annalena Baerbock, Germany\u2019s foreign minister, urged \u201cmaximum restraint\u201d in a call with her Iranian counterpart.<\/p>\n

Senior US Republicans demanded that Joe Biden order the military to join Israel\u00a0in a \u201cdevastating\u201d response<\/a>\u00a0to any Iranian attack.<\/p>\n

Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader,\u00a0promised revenge for the killing of senior generals in\u00a0an Israeli drone strike in Damascus<\/a>\u00a0in April. He said on state TV: \u201cThe evil regime must be punished, and it will be punished.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iranian state media said the nature of the response had been decided and \u201cpunishment\u201d would be heavy.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Iranian diplomats said Tehran will soon respond to the Damascus attack, claiming this could have been avoided.<\/p>\n

\u201cHad the UN Security Council condemned the Zionist regime\u2019s reprehensible act of aggression on our diplomatic premises in Damascus and subsequently brought to justice its perpetrators, the imperative for Iran to punish this rogue regime might have been obviated,\u201d the Iranian mission to the United Nations said on social media.<\/p>\n

The US has communicated to Iran that it was not involved in the Damascus strike, Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, told reporters. \u201cWe have warned Iran not to use this attack as a pretext to escalate further in the region or to attack US facilities or personnel,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Tom Cotton, a Republican senator, warned that an Iranian attack on Israel was \u201cimminent\u201d and said: \u201cPresident Biden needs to warn the Ayatollahs immediately that\u00a0the United States will back Israel to the hilt<\/a>\u00a0and the joint American-Israeli retaliation for any attack will be swift and devastating.\u201d<\/p>\n

Antony Blinken, the US secretary of state, phoned his counterparts in China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Europe to ask them to use their influence to \u201curge Iran not to escalate\u201d, the State Department said Thursday.<\/p>\n

Mr Blinken also spoke with Yoav Gallant, the Israeli defence minister, \u201cto reiterate our strong support for Israel against these threats\u201d.<\/p>\n

Open warfare between Israel and Iran would be an unprecedented escalation in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the Iranian-backed terrorist group in Gaza behind\u00a0the Oct 7 massacre<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister, said on Thursday that the \u201cthreats from Iran\u00a0are completely unacceptable<\/a>\u201d and stressed that \u201cwe have always said that we will support Israel\u2019s ability to defend itself\u201d.<\/p>\n

David Cameron, the Foreign Secretary, wrote on X, formerly Twitter: \u201cToday I made clear to Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian that Iran must not draw the Middle East into a wider conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am deeply concerned about the potential for miscalculation leading to further violence. Iran should instead work to de-escalate and prevent further attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marco Rubio, a senior Republican on the US senate intelligence committee, said the tensions marked \u201cthe most dangerous Middle East moment since 1973,\u201d referring to the Yom Kippur war.<\/p>\n

He added that Iran \u201cwants to launch a large-scale attack from their own territory against Israel. Israel will respond instantly with an even more severe counter-attack inside of Iran\u201d.<\/p>\n

It was unclear whether he had personally seen US intelligence reflecting this or was commenting on media reports.<\/p>\n

The Telegraph understands that several senior Iranian security and intelligence officials in Damascus moved to two civilian hotels for secret military meetings two days ago, converting them into operations rooms to discuss military plans.<\/p>\n

A security source said both hotels were hosting members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard who work in Syria, and Iran had transferred them there to ensure their safety after\u00a0last week\u2019s attack in Damascus<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Israel has not publicly claimed responsibility for that attack, although US and Israeli officials have acknowledged it was carried out by Israel.<\/p>\n
