They did not say who they thought was behind the alleged attack.<\/p>\n<p>Moldova\u2019s Bureau for Reintegration Policies responded by saying that the incident fits \u201ca pattern of provocations\u201d in Transnistria designed to \u201cincite panic and tension\u201d and <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/transnistria-moldova-russia-ukraine-war-99575f5e67c222edced149031417bd5a\">maintain attention on the region<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Moldova, like Ukraine, is a candidate member for European Union membership, and has repeatedly accused Russia of conducting a \u201chybrid war\u201d against the country, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/moldova-local-elections-russia-shor-fa44f9c9a49b0f1812821fe362384e57\">meddling in local elections,<\/a> and running vast disinformation campaigns to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-zelenskyy-politics-government-maia-sandu-152d2353f4c18bb84348f5d1656edb98\">try to topple the government<\/a> and derail its path toward full EU membership.
