The prime minister of Poland has said Europe is \u2018in a pre-war era\u2019 as Vladimir Putin<\/a>\u2019s barbaric bombardments on Ukraine<\/a> came alarmingly close to his country\u2019s borders on Friday.<\/p>\n

Russia<\/a> deployed some 99 missiles and kamikaze drones on power plants in central regions in Ukraine, deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure.<\/p>\n

People were left without electricity in the latest barrage on the country\u2019s already damaged power infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Power stations were hit in Stryi, Lviv region, and Burshtyn, Ivano-Frankivsk region, both in the direction of Nato and EU state Poland.<\/p>\n

Polish PM Donald Tusk said in an interview<\/a> with newspaper network LENA: \u2018We have not had a situation like this since 1945.<\/p>\n

\u2018I know it sounds devastating, especially to people of the younger generation, but we have to mentally get used to a new era. We are in a pre-war era. I don\u2019t exaggerate.\u2019<\/p>\n

Nato<\/a> was forced to scramble its fighter jets in Poland amid the strikes in the early hours of today.<\/p>\n

The Operational Command of the Polish armed forces said on X: \u2018Polish and allied aircraft are operating in Polish airspace, which may result in increased noise levels, especially in the southeastern part of the country.\u2019<\/p>\n

Away from Poland<\/a>, fragments of a drone were discovered on a farm in Nato-member Romania, near the border with Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The Romanian ministry of defence said the farm is located near the Danube river, which separates the two countries at Ukraine\u2019s southwestern edge.<\/p>\n

A statement said: \u2018On the evening of 28 March, fragments that appear to have come from an aerial device [drone] on a farmland in the Great Braila Island were identified.<\/p>\n

\u2018The ministry of national defence, together with specialised structures within the national defence system, public order and national security, is conducting an investigation of the incident on Friday, March 29, according to specific operational procedures.\u2019<\/p>\n

It also comes after authorities in Moldova said three explosions were heard near its border with Ukraine overnight.<\/p>\n

The explosions appear to have happened in Ukraine\u2019s Novodnestrovsk region, just to the north of the Moldovan border.<\/p>\n

Moldova\u2019s Border Agency confirmed it is possible Russian missiles crossed into its airspace overnight, adding that it has no sufficient detection systems.<\/p>\n

Although Moldova is not a Nato member, it does cooperate with the alliance and contributes to peacekeeping missions.<\/p>\n
