He and the rest of the crew were trapped for more than an hour while bleeding, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PalestineRCS\/status\/1755611010357232006\">according to<\/a> the Red Crescent.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Crescent <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PalestineRCS\/status\/1755545092306227596\">said<\/a> that 12 of its colleagues, including al-Omari, have been \u201ckilled while carrying out their humanitarian work since the beginning of the war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The actual number may be higher. Help us find Hind\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/m1K1YS4SKg\">pic.twitter.com\/m1K1YS4SKg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; PRCS (@PalestineRCS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PalestineRCS\/status\/1755682617456734717?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 8, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Loay Elbasyouni, who helped engineer the NASA Mars helicopter after being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unrwa.org\/tags\/loay-elbasyouni\">educated<\/a> in UNRWA schools in Gaza, said his parents were among the patients in the convoy that was attacked on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Elbasyouni <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AstroLoay\/status\/1755385964875194842\">said<\/a> that his parents survived \u201cby a miracle\u201d but remained stuck at <a href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/tags\/al-shifa-hospital\">al-Shifa hospital<\/a> in Gaza City.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>None of Gaza\u2019s hospitals fully functional<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Al-Shifa was the largest and most advanced hospital in Gaza before it was <a href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/blogs\/maureen-clare-murphy\/israel-fails-show-evidence-hamas-command-center-al-shifa-hospital\">besieged and raided<\/a> by Israeli troops in November.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital had resumed the provision of minimal services in recent weeks. But the World Health Organization <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WHOoPt\/status\/1755659339807838620\">said on Thursday<\/a> that the intensification of hostilities in the area in recent days has \u201cundone progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The UN health agency said that \u201cwe cannot let the cornerstone of Gaza\u2019s health system collapse again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>None of Gaza\u2019s 36 hospitals remain fully functional and only one-third of them are partially functional, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ochaopt.org\/content\/hostilities-gaza-strip-and-israel-flash-update-114\">according to<\/a> the World Health Organization.<\/p>\n<p>A mere four out of 22 health facilities run by <a href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/tags\/unrwa\">UNRWA<\/a> remain operational, according to the embattled agency serving Palestine refugees.<\/p>\n<p>The destruction of the health sector has been a key feature of Israel\u2019s military campaign in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Ghassan Abu Sitta, a British Palestinian surgeon who was working in Gaza during the first weeks of the war, <a href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/blogs\/tamara-nassar\/ghassan-abu-sitta-why-israel-attacks-gaza-hospitals\">has said<\/a> that the targeting of health facilities and medical workers is aimed at making Gaza unlivable and to force the expulsion of its population.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Al-Amal Hospital under siege<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Israeli forces are besieging hospitals in Khan Younis in southern Gaza, which has been the focus of its operations in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Crescent <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PalestineRCS\/status\/1755578098878136708\">reported<\/a> heavy artillery shelling and gunfire in close proximity to Al-Amal Hospital, which it administers, in Khan Younis on Thursday. The sniper hit him directly in the chest and his condition is very\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QdPPmnBdNU\">pic.twitter.com\/QdPPmnBdNU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Dr. Mads Gilbert (@DrMadsGilbert) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrMadsGilbert\/status\/1755582371158462686?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 8, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While OCHA said that the person who was shot by a sniper while attempting to collect water at Al-Amal was a woman, Al Jazeera <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/program\/newsfeed\/2024\/2\/8\/israeli-sniper-kills-palestinian-girl-in-front-of-gaza-hospital\">identified her<\/a> as 14-year-old Ruwa Qdeih.<\/p>\n<p>Video shows people recovering her lifeless body from the street, her blood staining the road, and then using a pulley system to move a container of water from one side of the road to the other.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u201cNowhere left for people to flee to\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>After laying waste to northern and central Gaza, Khan Younis in the south has been the focus of Israel\u2019s ground operations after the collapse of a temporary truce in late November.<\/p>\n<p>A senior Israeli military officer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/israeli-army-peeling-back-khan-younis-believes-hamas-gaza-chief-is-there-2024-02-08\/\">said on Thursday<\/a> that its forces were \u201cpeeling back\u201d Hamas infrastructure in the area, where they say they believe Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas in Gaza, is hiding.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel\u2019s prime minister, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/israels-netanyahu-rejects-gaza-ceasefire-offer-pledges-defeat-hamas-2024-02-07\/\">rejected<\/a> a ceasefire proposal put forward by Hamas, insisting that \u201conly total victory will allow us to restore security in Israel, both in the north and in the south.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The majority of Gaza\u2019s population of 2.3 million people are now concentrated in Rafah, along the southern boundary with Egypt. It is also the point of entry for most of the very limited aid being brought into Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>The Norwegian Refugee Council <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrc.no\/news\/2024\/february\/gaza-israels-military-operation-in-rafah-would-be-fatal-for-displaced-civilians-and-humanitarian-aid\/\">said on Thursday<\/a> that an assault on overcrowded Rafah would \u201crisk the aid system in Gaza coming to a halt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Angelita Caredda, a regional director for the humanitarian group, said that it could \u201cturn Rafah into a zone of bloodshed and destruction that people won\u2019t be able to escape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is nowhere left for people to flee to,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisease and starvation already persist among the displaced population\u201d in Rafah, the Norwegian Refugee Council said. Hepatitis A, gastroenteritis, diarrhea, smallpox, lice and influenza were reported in each of the nine shelters hosting 27,400 people in Rafah that were assessed by the group.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Aid missions denied and obstructed<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The UN secretary-general <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/statement\/2024-02-07\/secretary-generals-remarks-the-general-assembly-priorities-for-2024-scroll-down-for-bilingual-delivered-all-english-version\">said on Wednesday<\/a> that he was \u201calarmed by reports that the Israeli military intends to focus next on Rafah \u2013 where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been squeezed in a desperate search for safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ant\u00f3nio Guterres added that \u201csuch an action would exponentially increase what is already a humanitarian nightmare with untold regional consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration also says it opposes an Israeli incursion into Rafah. White House national security spokesperson John Kirby, who has fiercely defended Israel\u2019s operations throughout the war, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dannyctkemp\/status\/1755665863225549103\">said<\/a> on Thursday that it \u201cwould be a disaster for those people and we would not support it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least 27,840 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since 7 October, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ochaopt.org\/content\/hostilities-gaza-strip-and-israel-flash-update-114\">according to<\/a> the health ministry in Gaza, with another 67,300 injured. Thousands of others remain missing, many of them feared to be dead under the rubble or in Gaza\u2019s streets.<\/p>\n<p>An untold number of Palestinians have died from hunger and disease in a secondary wave of mortality resulting from Israel\u2019s military offensive and siege.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe risk of famine in Gaza is increasing by the day, particularly for hundreds of thousands of people in northern Gaza who have been predominantly cut off from assistance,\u201d the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ochaopt.org\/content\/hostilities-gaza-strip-and-israel-flash-update-114\">said on Thursday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The last time <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UNRWA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UNRWA<\/a> was allowed to deliver food north or Wadi <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Gaza?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Gaza<\/a> was on 23 January. <\/p>\n<p>Since the beginning of the year, half of our aid mission requests to the north were denied.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UN?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UN<\/a> has identified deep pockets of starvation and hunger in northern <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Gaza?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Gaza<\/a> where people are\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CuzocLTLAS\">pic.twitter.com\/CuzocLTLAS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash;
