The New York Times<\/em> bucked powerful pressure from the transgender lobby to showcase some of the teenagers who were pushed and harmed by irreversible surgery and body-changing hormones.<\/p>\n

The landmark article may help many other progressives quietly recognize the cruelty of converting unhappy teenagers into lifetime subjects for use by the political lobby and its medical allies.<\/p>\n

In the\u00a0report<\/a>, the New York Times<\/em>\u00a0interviewed Grace\u00a0Powell, who, like many teenagers, didn\u2019t feel comfortable in her own skin. She was unpopular and oftentimes bullied. When puberty hit, she felt that it had made everything worse, and she suffered from depression.<\/p>\n

Then, when Powell was 12 or 13, she found transgender propaganda online and started to believe that\u00a0the reason she didn\u2019t feel comfortable in her body was because she had been born in the wrong body.<\/p>\n

She also came across the argument that if one doesn\u2019t transition, they will end up killing themselves \u2014 a narrative constantly\u00a0promulgated by trans activists.<\/p>\n

At 17,\u00a0Powell told her parents that she believed she was the opposite sex. Her parents then \u201csent her to a\u00a0gender specialist to make sure she was serious,\u201d the New York Times<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n

Powell ended up starting\u00a0cross-sex hormones by the fall of her senior year of high school. The summer before college, she received a\u00a0double mastectomy. She then attended\u00a0Sarah Lawrence College, where she went by the name Grayson, and lived with a male roommate\u00a0on a men\u2019s floor in a dormitory.<\/p>\n

But at no points during her medical or surgical procedures did anyone ever ask Powell about her depression or why she wanted to change her sex, she said. Powell, now 23, added that no one had ever asked her about her sexual orientation or any trauma she may have had.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the therapists and doctors never learned that she had been sexually abused as a child, Powell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish there had been more open conversations,\u201d Powell told the New York Times<\/em>. \u201cBut I was told there is one cure and one thing to do if this is your problem, and this will help you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat should be a medical and psychological issue has been morphed into a political one,\u201d she added. \u201cIt\u2019s a mess.\u201d<\/p>\n

The New York Times<\/em> acknowledged that \u201cPowell\u2019s story shows how easy it is for young people to get caught up by the pull of ideology in this atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the outlet also\u00a0admitted that kids are \u201ca new and growing group of patients\u201d in the transgender department.<\/p>\n

While transgender adults, who have \u201chad longstanding and deep-seated gender dysphoria\u201d their entire lives, are\u00a0happy with their transitions, this growing group of children that are going to clinics seeking sex changes is a new\u00a0phenomenon,\u00a0clinicians say.<\/p>\n

Laura Edwards-Leeper, the founding psychologist of the first pediatric gender clinic in the United States, told the New York Times<\/em> that when she started her practice in 2007, most of her patients had suffered with gender dysphoria their entire lives, and that she felt a sex change made sense for almost all of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut that is just not the case anymore,\u201d\u00a0Edwards-Leeper said. \u201cThe population has changed drastically.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, most of her patients have no history of\u00a0childhood gender dysphoria, she noted.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, there is an uptick in what are known as \u201cdetransitioners,\u201d who say that only conservative media outlets seem interested in telling their stories. They say that when they change their minds, they feel abandoned.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was\u00a0always a liberal Democrat. Now I feel politically homeless,\u201d\u00a0one woman whose son changed his mind after coming out as trans and starting hormone therapy said.<\/p>\n

The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0also\u00a0acknowledged the menacing question that trans activists always ask parents of children who have discovered transgender propaganda, which is, \u201cDo you want a dead son or a living daughter?\u201d<\/p>\n

After\u00a0Kathleen\u2019s\u00a015-year-old son\u00a0abruptly told his parents he was trans, the doctor who was going to assess if the teenager had A.D.H.D. instead referred him to someone\u00a0who specialized in both A.D.H.D. and \u201cgender,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

The mother told the New York Times<\/em> that she had assumed\u00a0the specialist would conduct some type of evaluation or assessment, but it didn\u2019t happen. Instead, the meeting was short and kicked off on a shocking note.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn front of my son, the therapist said, \u2018Do you want a dead son or a live daughter?’\u201d Kathleen said.<\/p>\n

Parents are constantly warned that taking any path other than transitioning their child will mean putting their kid at risk for\u00a0suicide. Parents are told that they will effectively kill their own children if they do not let them get a sex change.<\/p>\n

Activists who advocate for letting kids undergo transgender-related medical procedures cite studies saying there is a connection between those procedures and a lower risk\u00a0of suicide.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut those studies were found to have methodological flaws or have been deemed not entirely conclusive,\u201d the New York Times<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n
