Parents who refuse to accept their children identifying as transgender could face seven years in jail under a new law in Scotland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cProposals published on Tuesday state that actions designed to \u201cchange or suppress\u201d another individual\u2019s gender identity, causing them physical or psychological harm, would become illegal under the radical law,\u201d reports the Telegraph.<\/p>\n

The law would ban so-called \u2018conversion practices\u2019 which often take place in a \u201cfamily setting,\u201d according to ministers.<\/p>\n

It would mean that if parents try to stop their child \u201cdressing in a way that reflects their sexual orientation or gender identity,\u201d they could face criminal sanctions even if they believe they are acting in the child\u2019s best interests.<\/p>\n
