{"id":276912,"date":"2023-11-30T07:30:02","date_gmt":"2023-11-30T07:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=276912"},"modified":"2023-12-02T06:30:32","modified_gmt":"2023-12-02T06:30:32","slug":"irish-lives-matter-graffiti-investigated-as-hate-crime-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=276912","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Irish lives matter\u2019 graffiti investigated as hate crime \u2013 police"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>RT.com \u2013 Nov 30, 2023<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Police in Northern Ireland have launched a hate crime probe after graffiti reading <em>\u201cIrish lives matter\u201d<\/em> was left on a wall in Belfast, a phrase thought to reflect anti-immigrant sentiment following several similar incidents in the area.<\/p>\n<p>The local authorities confirmed the vandalism in west Belfast on Wednesday, with police inspector Andrew Matson saying the graffiti and other anti-immigrant signage would be treated as <em>\u201chate\u201d<\/em> incidents.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur local Neighbourhood Policing Team have been undertaking enquiries in the area and anyone who has any information in regard to the erection of the notices is asked to contact police,\u201d<\/em> Matson said, also referring to a sign placed elsewhere in Belfast stating that <em>\u201cillegal immigrants\u201d<\/em> would no longer be accepted for housing.<\/p>\n<p>A number of local lawmakers have come forward to denounce the graffiti and signs, with Sinn Fein MP Paul Maskey calling them <em>\u201coffensive\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cdisgraceful.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s deeply concerning and disgraceful that these offensive and racist signs have been erected in an attempt to create fear and intimidate people,\u201d<\/em> he said, adding <em>\u201cThere is no place for this type of behavior in our society.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Social Democratic and Labour Party councilor Paul Doherty said he asked city officials to remove the graffiti, insisting Belfast is a <em>\u201cwelcoming area that is home to a diverse array of people,\u201d<\/em> while People Before Profit MLA Gerry Carroll called the signs <em>\u201cracist poison.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Similar anti-immigrant slogans were found on multiple signs erected in south Belfast earlier this month, which were also investigated as a <em>\u201chate incident\u201d<\/em> by police. So far, the authorities have not identified any suspects or organized groups behind the signage.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation was launched against the backdrop of last week\u2019s anti-migrant riot in Dublin in the Republic of Ireland. The unrest erupted after a man of Algerian origin stabbed three children and one adult outside a school.
