The White House<\/a> said it was \u201crunning out of runway\u201d on supporting both Ukraine<\/a> and Israel<\/a> as US Republican lawmakers warned they would protest any funding request for military aid<\/a> from the Biden administration for the two crisis-hit nations<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think in the immediate term, right now, we can continue to support \u2013 with the authorities in the appropriations we have \u2013 Israel and Ukraine.\u00a0 But, you know, we\u2019re … certainly running out of runway,\u201d said John Kirby<\/a>, a spokesperson for the National Security Council.<\/p>\n

Mr Kirby was answering a question at a daily briefing on the administration meeting the immediate needs of Ukraine and Israel<\/a> along with the continuing fight to elect a House Speaker.<\/p>\n

Mr Kirby said the US administration had the means to support both Israel and Ukraine in the near term. \u201cBut you don\u2019t want to be trying to bake in long-term support when you\u2019re at the end of the rope,\u201d he said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd on the Ukraine funding, we\u2019re coming near to the end of the rope.\u00a0 I mean, today we announced $200mn, and we\u2019ll keep that aid going as long as we can, but it\u2019s not going to be indefinite,\u201d he said, adding that the US is moving with \u201ca sense of alacrity\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added a certain date could not be put on \u201cnear term\u201d because it hinged on Ukraine\u2019s expenditure rate and replenishment ability.<\/p>\n

The National Security Council coordinator also said the House Speaker position was critical in terms of bringing legislation to the floor and moving things forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the sooner that there\u2019s a Speaker of the House, obviously, the more comfortable we\u2019ll all be in terms of being able to support Israel and Ukraine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The White House has been considering a budget request tying money for these two conflicts together to increase the chances that the heavily-debated assistance for Ukraine will be approved.<\/p>\n

President Joe Biden on Tuesday called the attack in Israel \u201can act of sheer evil\u201d and said that the US military assistance was being sent to help Israel in its fight.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s Hamas attack was \u201cthe deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

He told Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US will send more military assistance to help Israel fight Hamas.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, he warned other countries and armed groups against entering the war. The US is already rushing munitions and military equipment to Israel and has deployed a carrier strike group to the eastern Mediterranean as deterrence.<\/p>\n
