Click to enlarge<\/p><\/div>\n<p>NATO&#8217;s most senior military official warned that the West&#8217;s ammunition warehouses providing help to Ukraine in its war against Russia are almost empty.<\/p>\n<p>Admiral Rob Bauer of the Netherlands, who chairs NATO&#8217;s Military Committee, said at a Warsaw Security Forum meeting on Tuesday that stockpiles of ammunition in Europe and the US \u2014 which are critical to the artillery-intensive war in Ukraine \u2014 are running low, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/live\/2023\/oct\/03\/russia-ukraine-war-live-updates-ukraine-joining-eu-volodymyr-zelenskiy\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Guardian reported;elm:context_link;itc:0\" data-rapid_p=\"6\" data-v9y=\"1\">The Guardian reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We give away weapons systems to Ukraine, which is great, and ammunition, but not from full warehouses. We started to give away from half-full or lower warehouses in Europe,&#8221; he said, <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2023\/10\/04\/europe\/uk-nato-ukraine-war-ammunition-intl-hnk-ml\/index.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:according to CNN;elm:context_link;itc:0\" data-rapid_p=\"7\" data-v9y=\"0\">according to CNN<\/a>. &#8220;The bottom of the barrel is now visible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need large volumes,&#8221; Bauer added, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-66984944\" data-ylk=\"slk:according to the BBC;elm:context_link;itc:0\" data-rapid_p=\"8\" data-v9y=\"0\">according to the BBC<\/a>. &#8220;The just-in-time, just-enough economy we built together in 30 years in our liberal economies is fine for a lot of things \u2013 but not the armed forces when there is a war ongoing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>James Heappey, the UK&#8217;s armed forces minister, echoed Bauer&#8217;s concerns at Tuesday&#8217;s panel, urging Western countries to ramp up ammunition production.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have to keep Ukraine in the fight tonight and tomorrow and the day after and the day after,&#8221; Heappey said, according to CNN. He added that that includes &#8220;continuing to give, day in, day out, and rebuilding our own stockpiles.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But the sheer amount of artillery that Ukraine needs is staggering.
