A limited hangout<\/strong> refers to a tactic used by governments to control the public\u2019s perception of events.<\/p>\n

According to Victor Marchetti<\/a>, a former special assistant to the Deputy Director<\/a> of the Central Intelligence Agency<\/a> (CIA), a limited hangout is “spy jargon for a favorite and frequently used gimmick of the clandestine professionals. When their veil of secrecy is shredded and they can no longer rely on a phony cover story to misinform the public, they resort to admitting\u2014sometimes even volunteering\u2014some of the truth while still managing to withhold the key and damaging facts in the case.<\/p>\n

The following Sky News report is a prime example.<\/p>\n

It is being used to conceal from the Western public revelations concerning the full extent of Ukrainian casualties, which have been far worse then the Western mainstream media have thus far acknowledged.<\/p>\n

According to an estimate from Col. Douglas Macgregor, a former White House advisor, the Ukrainians have suffered more than 400,000 dead and upwards of 50,000 amputees.<\/p>\n

During the recent counteroffensive, some estimate that as many as 72,000 Ukrainians were killed in the past three months alone<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The following Sky News report admits to less than half that number of amputees estimated by Douglas Macgregor, but it serves to conceal from Western readers the full extent of Ukrainian casualties.<\/p>\n

This is how the mainstream Western media now functions. It serves as an organ of disinformation to shape how the Western public view events. Ed.<\/p>\n

‘I lost my arm and ate dog food to survive’: The unprecedented loss of limbs in Ukraine<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The war in Ukraine has led to tens of thousands of people losing limbs, changing their lives forever. Sky News US correspondent Mark Stone met soldiers who have been through hell and learns about their recovery.<\/p>\n

“Incoming!”<\/p>\n

One word and then Gosha’s life changed forever.<\/p>\n

The mortar exploded right next to the 30-year-old Ukrainian soldier.<\/p>\n

If his friend, Vasian, hadn’t shouted, Gosha wouldn’t have turned. The mortar would have exploded in his face. Instead it was his arm.<\/p>\n

“Blood was streaming like hell,” Gosha recalls.<\/p>\n

It was early May last year. The two friends were at the heart of a battle that would come to define the ferocity of the Ukraine<\/a><\/strong> war.<\/p>\n

“I reached for my tourniquet and gave it to him. ‘Higher, Vasian!” He tightened it. It didn’t tighten well \u2026 and then he said ‘f***, what shall I do?’ I passed out.<\/p>\n

“When I regained consciousness, I said: ‘Vasian, finish me off, because I’m f****** done'”.<\/p>\n

Vasian wouldn’t do it. He refused his friend’s pleas. Sixteen months on, at a small prosthetics clinic in the United States, Gosha tells a story of horror and survival which reflects a much wider challenge.<\/p>\n

At least 25,000 Ukrainians have lost limbs since Vladimir Putin’s invasion last year.<\/p>\n

Accurate figures are hard to verify and could be much higher.<\/p>\n

The number of Russian soldiers to have been maimed is not known but is thought to be huge too.<\/p>\n

Neither Ukrainian nor Russian officials are willing, officially, to reveal a figure which underlines the cost of the war.<\/p>\n

It is a technique used by governments and the media to control the public\u2019s perception of events.
