New York City Health Commissioner\u00a0Ashwin Vasan announced that illegal immigration has been ushering a new wave of tuberculosis and polio to the city.<\/p>\n
In a citywide letter to\u00a0physicians and healthcare administrators last week, Vasan said that the more than 50,000 illegal immigrants that have come to New York City since last year caused a spike in contagious diseases like tuberculosis and polio.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany people who\u00a0recently arrived in NYC<\/a>\u00a0have lived in or traveled through countries with high rates of TB,\u201d he wrote, as reported by the New York Post<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n Tuberculosis can be cured with antibiotics and generally takes six to nine months to fully recover. According to the Post<\/em>, the city\u2019s TB rate is now more than double the national rate with 6.1 cases per 100,000.<\/p>\n \u201cClose to nine out of 10 (88%) of these TB cases are people born outside the United States,\u201d it noted. \u201cEvery neighborhood in the city has had at least one case.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cCommissioner Vasan\u2019s letter called on New York to pull out all the stops providing migrants health care, food and legal services,\u201d the Post continued. \u201cImmigrants who lawfully apply for a visa must undergo health screenings and show they are vaccinated, and\u00a0refugees are screened for TB before entering the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n As Breitbart News reported<\/a>, President Joe Biden\u2019s\u00a0Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently admitted thousands of unaccompanied migrant children \u201cwith inactive\u00a0tuberculosis into American communities in the last year.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cA court-ordered report, reviewed by Stephen Dinan at the\u00a0Washington Times<\/em>, details how HHS has been releasing thousands of UACs with latent infections as part of the federal government\u2019s pipeline of migrant children into the United States,\u201d said the report.<\/p>\n \u201cAccording to the government report, HHS is \u2018not routinely\u2019 treating UACs with\u00a0inactive\u00a0tuberculosis because they typically are released quickly into the U.S. interior,\u201d it added. \u201cLikewise, the report found that HHS does not have adequate shelter space for UACs who are revealed to have criminal records but failed to go into where those migrant children ultimately end up.\u201d<\/p>\n Paul Roland Bois joined Breitbart News in 2021.
