{"id":271733,"date":"2023-08-01T06:50:42","date_gmt":"2023-08-01T06:50:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=271733"},"modified":"2023-08-02T07:21:53","modified_gmt":"2023-08-02T07:21:53","slug":"ukrainian-soldiers-tell-of-high-losses-for-little-gains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=271733","title":{"rendered":"Ukrainian Soldiers Tell Of High Losses For Little Gains"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Moon of Alabama \u2013 July 31, 2023<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Yesterday I linked to a fresh <em>NY Times<\/em> piece about the horrors of the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>It has a somewhat uplifting headline and the first few paragraphs describe an Ukrainian &#8216;success&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/30\/world\/europe\/ukraine-counteroffensive-russia.html\">Amid the Counterattack\u2019s Deadly Slog, a Glimmer of Success for Ukraine<\/a><br \/>\n<em>Recapturing the village of Staromaiorske was such welcome news for the country that President Volodymyr Zelensky announced it himself. But formidable Russian defenses have stymied progress elsewhere.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The piece is accompanied by this staged photo which shows some trashed uniform on a dirt road with two boots put next to it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/uniform-on-dirt-road.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-271734\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/uniform-on-dirt-road.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"380\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/uniform-on-dirt-road.jpg 380w, https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/uniform-on-dirt-road-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moonofalabama.org\/16i\/starom3.jpg\">bigger<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The line below the picture, which I strongly believe is false, says:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The body of a Russian soldier outside a village in the Zaporizhzhia region of southern Ukraine this month.<br \/>\nCredit&#8230; Tyler Hicks\/The New York Times<\/p>\n<p>I wonder what the editors thought when they came up with it.<\/p>\n<p>Now onto the first paragraphs of the report:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">For 10 days, Ukrainian marines fought street by street and house by house to recapture the southeastern village of Staromaiorske, navigating artillery fire, airstrikes and hundreds of Russian troops.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The Russians put up a ferocious defense but that ended on Thursday when they folded and the Ukrainians claimed victory. \u201cSome ran away, some were left behind,\u201d said an assault commander from Ukraine\u2019s 35th Marine Brigade, who uses the call sign Dikyi, which means Wild. \u201cWe were taking captives,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The recapture of Staromaiorske, a small village that is nonetheless critical to Ukraine\u2019s southern strategy, was such a welcome development for Ukraine that President Volodymyr Zelensky announced it himself.<\/p>\n<p>I have bad news for the <em>NY Times<\/em> readers. The village Staromaiorske (Staromayorskoye in Russian writing) is no longer in Ukrainian hands but in the gray-zone:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moonofalabama.org\/2023\/07\/ukrainian-soldiers-tell-of-high-losses-and-few-wins.html#more\">Cont. reading: <em>Ukrainian Soldiers Tell Of High Losses For Little Gains<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ukrainian Army are taking heavy casualties in the counteroffensive and making little if any headway.
