It\u2019s only\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ErBog1gRhH\">pic.twitter.com\/ErBog1gRhH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; \u0412\u043e\u043b\u043e\u0434\u0438\u043c\u0438\u0440 \u0417\u0435\u043b\u0435\u043d\u0441\u044c\u043a\u0438\u0439 (@ZelenskyyUa) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ZelenskyyUa\/status\/1665952784665964545?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 6, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/massive-wall-water-surges-through-ukraine-after-major-dam-blown\">As we detailed earlier<\/a>, <strong>both sides accuse each other of the attack <\/strong>that puts tens of thousands of homes at risk and might even threaten the safety of Europe&#8217;s largest nuclear power plant.<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theautomaticearth.com\/2023\/06\/kievs-long-term-plans-to-blow-up-the-kakhovka-dam\/\">as Raul Ilargi Meijer writes<\/a>,<strong> twice last year (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20221229064018\/https:\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2022\/12\/29\/ukraine-offensive-kharkiv-kherson-donetsk\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/russia-mined-a-ukrainian-dam-planned-false-flag-attack-zelenskyy-2022-10\">here<\/a>), Ukrainian officials discussed Kiev&#8217;s plans to blow up the dam.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theautomaticearth.com\/2023\/06\/kievs-long-term-plans-to-blow-up-the-kakhovka-dam\/\">Andrew Korybko lays out the real narrative here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/russia\/577548-kakhovskaya-hydroelectric-dam-breach\/\">partial destruction of the Kakhovka Dam<\/a>\u00a0on early Tuesday morning saw Kiev and Moscow exchange accusations about who\u2019s to blame, but <strong>a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/wapo-proved-that-zelensky-lied-when\">report<\/a>\u00a0from the Washington Post (WaPo) in late December extends credence to the Kremlin\u2019s version of events. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20221229064018\/https:\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2022\/12\/29\/ukraine-offensive-kharkiv-kherson-donetsk\/\">Inside the Ukrainian counteroffensive that shocked Putin and reshaped the war<\/a>\u201d, its journalists <strong>quoted former commander of November\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/comparing-and-contrasting-russias\">Kherson Counteroffensive<\/a>\u00a0Major General Andrey Kovalchuk who shockingly admitted to planning this war crime:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u201cKovalchuk considered flooding the river. The Ukrainians, he said, even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three holes in the metal to see if the Dnieper\u2019s water could be raised enough to stymie Russian crossings but not flood nearby villages. <\/em><strong><em>The test was a success, Kovalchuk said, but the step remained a last resort. Just like Ukraine launched its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/ukraines-proxy-invasion-of-russia\">proxy invasion of Russia<\/a>\u00a0in late May to distract from its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/what-comes-next-after-russias-victory\">loss in the Battle of Artyomovsk<\/a>, so too might does it seem to have gone through with Kovalchuk\u2019s planned war crime to distract from this most recent embarrassment as well.<\/p>\n<p>The abovementioned explanation isn\u2019t as far-fetched as some might initially think either. After all, one of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/realkm.com\/2019\/03\/05\/exploring-the-science-of-complexity-series-part-14-concept-5-sensitivity-to-initial-conditions\/\">complexity theory\u2019s precepts<\/a>\u00a0is that initial conditions at the onset of non-linear processes can disproportionately shape the outcome. In this context, the first failed phase of Kiev\u2019s counteroffensive risked ruining the entire campaign, which could have prompted its planners to employ Kovalchuk\u2019s \u201clast resort\u201d in order to introduce an unexpected variable into the equation that might improve their odds.<\/p>\n<p>Russia had over 15 months to entrench itself in Ukraine\u2019s former eastern and southern regions that Kiev still claims as its own through the construction of various defensive structures and associated contingency planning so as to maintain its control over those territories. It therefore follows that even the most properly supplied and thought-out counteroffensive wasn\u2019t going to be a walk in the park\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/us-propaganda-is-responsible-for\">contrary to the Western public\u2019s expectations<\/a>, thus explaining why the first phase just failed.<\/p>\n<p>This reality check shattered whatever\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/astutenews.com\/2022\/07\/putin-cautioned-russian-strategic-forecasters-against-indulging-in-wishful-thinking\/\">wishful thinking<\/a>\u00a0expectations Kiev might have had since it showed that the original plan of swarming the Line of Contact (LOC) entails considerable costs that reduce the chances of it succeeding unless serious happens behind the front lines to distract the Russian defenders. <strong>Therein lies the strategic reason behind partially destroying the Kakhovka Dam on Tuesday morning exactly as Kovalchuk proved late last year is possible to pull off per his own admission to WaPo.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The first of Kiev\u2019s goals that this terrorist attack served was to prompt global concern about the safety of the Russian-controlled Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant,<\/strong> which relies on water from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/defense\/1628251\">now-rapidly-depleting<\/a>Kakhovka Reservoir for cooling. The International Atomic Energy Agency\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/europe\/live-news\/russia-ukraine-war-news-06-06-23\/h_8d2b85b36bcc6b0a54d4de8416cd9ddb\">said<\/a>\u00a0that there\u2019s \u201cno immediate nuclear safety risk\u201d, but a latent one can\u2019t be ruled out. Should a crisis transpire, then it could throw Russia\u2019s defenses in northern Zaporozhye Region into chaos.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The second goal is that the downstream areas of Kherson Region, which are divided between Kiev and Moscow, have now been flooded.<\/strong> Although the water might eventually recede after some time, this could complicate Russia\u2019s defensive plans along the left bank of the Dnieper River. Taken together with the consequences connected to the first scenario, this means that a significant part of the riparian front behind the LOC could soon soften up to facilitate the next phase of Kiev\u2019s counteroffensive.<\/li>\n<li>In fact, the geographic scope of Kiev\u2019s \u201cunconventional softening operation\u201d <strong>might even expand to Crimea due to the threat that Tuesday morning\u2019s terrorist attack could pose to the peninsula\u2019s water supply via its eponymous canal.<\/strong> The regional governor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/crimea-head-says-dam-blast-070204150.html\">said<\/a>that sufficient supplies remain for now but that the coming days will reveal the level of risk. While Crimea still managed to survive Kiev\u2019s blockade of the canal for eight years, there\u2019s no doubt that this development is disadvantageous for Russia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The fourth strategic goal builds upon the three that were already discussed and concerns the psychological warfare component of this attack.<\/strong> On the foreign front, Kiev\u2019s gaslighting that Moscow is guilty of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/europe\/live-news\/russia-ukraine-war-news-06-06-23\/h_4c7a40dcec2b8f4216592dc09339e8cf\">ecocide<\/a>\u201d was amplified by the Mainstream Media in spite of Kovalchuk\u2019s damning admission to WaPo last December in order to maximize global pressure on Russia, while the domestic front is aimed at sowing panic in Ukraine\u2019s former regions with the intent of further softening Russia\u2019s defenses there.<\/li>\n<li><strong>And finally, the last strategic goal that was served by partially destroying the Kakhovka Dam is that Russia might soon be thrown into a dilemma.<\/strong> Kiev\u2019s \u201cunconventional softening operation\u201d along the Kherson-Zaporozhye LOC could divide the Kremlin\u2019s focus from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/theres-no-justification-for-kievs\">Belgorod-Kharkov<\/a>and Donbass fronts, which could weaken one of those three and thus risk a breakthrough. The defensive situation could become even more difficult for Russia if Kiev expands the conflict by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/the-union-state-expects-that-the\">attacking Belarus and\/or Moldova<\/a>\u00a0too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To be absolutely clear, the military-strategic dynamics of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/astutenews.com\/2022\/03\/russia-is-waging-an-existential-struggle-in-defense-of-its-independence-sovereignty\/\">NATO-Russian<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/ukraine-humiliated-western-propagandists\">proxy<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/putin-reminded-everyone-that-russia\">war<\/a>\u00a0in Ukraine still favor Russia for the time being, though that\u2019s precisely why Kiev carried out Tuesday morning\u2019s terrorist attack in a desperate attempt to reshape them in its favor. This assessment is based on the observation that Russia\u2019s victory in the Battle of Artyomovsk shows that it\u2019s able to hold its own against NATO in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/natos-self-declared-race-of-logistics\">\u201crace of logistics\u201d\/\u201cwar of attrition\u201d<\/a>\u00a0that the bloc\u2019s chief declared in mid-February.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, even the New York Times admitted that the West\u2019s sanctions failed to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/the-new-york-times-just-admitted\">collapse Russia\u2019s economy<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/the-new-york-times-admitted-that\">isolate it<\/a>, while some of its top influencers also admitted that it\u2019s impossible to deny the proliferation of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/scholz-doesnt-realize-that-the-ship\">multipolar<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/korybko-to-c-raja-mohan-youre-manipulating\">processes<\/a>\u00a0in the 15 months since the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/20-constructive-critiques-about-russias\">special operation<\/a>\u00a0began.
