{"id":269401,"date":"2023-05-31T12:10:42","date_gmt":"2023-05-31T12:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=269401"},"modified":"2023-06-02T07:15:27","modified_gmt":"2023-06-02T07:15:27","slug":"russias-former-president-says-uk-officials-are-legitimate-military-targets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=269401","title":{"rendered":"Russia\u2019s former president says UK officials are \u2018legitimate military targets\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Former Russian president and deputy chairman of Moscow\u2019s security council describes Britain as Russia\u2019s \u201ceternal enemy\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>David Hughes \u2013 The Independent May 31, 2023<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>British public officials are a \u201clegitimate military target\u201d because of the UK\u2019s support for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/ukraine\">Ukraine<\/a>, former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/russia\">Russian<\/a> president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/dmitry-medvedev\">Dmitry Medvedev<\/a> has warned.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Medvedev, deputy chairman of Vladimir Putin\u2019s security council, claimed the UK\u2019s support for Kyiv amounted to an \u201cundeclared war\u201d against Russia.<\/p>\n<p>His comments came after Foreign Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/james-cleverly\">James Cleverly<\/a> said Ukraine had the right to \u201cproject force beyond its borders\u201d into Russia to resist Mr Putin\u2019s invasion.<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian authorities have denied launching the drone attack which hit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/moscow\">Moscow<\/a> on Tuesday, but there has been an escalation in incidents within Russia either by Kyiv\u2019s military or local groups opposed to the war.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the Foreign Secretary, Mr Medvedev said: \u201cThe goofy officials of the UK, our eternal enemy, should remember that within the framework of the universally accepted international law which regulates modern warfare, including the Hague and Geneva Conventions with their additional protocols, their state can also be qualified as being at war.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, the UK acts as Ukraine\u2019s ally, providing it with military aid in the form of equipment and specialists, i.e., de facto, is leading an undeclared war against Russia,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat being the case, any of its public officials (either military, or civil, who facilitate the war) can be considered as a legitimate military target.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/europe\/russia-putin-dmitry-medvedev-ukraine-b2348763.html\">Continues \u2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Medvedev-statement.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-269402\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Medvedev-statement.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"597\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Medvedev-statement.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Medvedev-statement-480x409.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 700px, 100vw\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are moving inexorably toward direct military confrontation with Russia over Ukraine.
