Why?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Vivek Saxena \u2013 American Wire May 25, 2023<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Critics are crying foul over the decision by Washington, D.C. prosecutors to drop nearly all of the charges originally faced by the man who allegedly rammed into White House security barriers earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>As previously reported, on Monday evening a man in a U-Haul replete with a Nazi flag crashed into a White House barricade. This man was later identified as Sai Varshith Kandula, a nonwhite, noncitizen 19-year-old from Chesterfield, Missouri.<\/p>\n<p>Following the altercation, he was arrested and \u201ccharged with threatening to kill, kidnap or inflict harm on a president, vice president or family member, as well as assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, trespassing and destruction of federal property,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/05\/24\/white-house-u-haul-suspect-sai-kandula-jailed\/\">New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But then something extraordinary happened \u2014 prosecutors dropped every single charge, leaving Kandula with nothing but \u201ca single count of depredation of property of the United States in excess of $1,000,\u201d the Post notes.<\/p>\n<p>Critics want to know why.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to sound paranoid, but that seems like they\u2019re trying to hush this up,\u201d Mark Hemingway, the husband of conservative commentator Mollie Hemingway, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Heminator\/status\/1661438549848195090\">tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>See more responses below:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Wrong color. I would bet lunch, that once someone starts digging into this, the flag was a plant. With a name like his it is highly unlikely he is a white supremacist. While this does admittedly sound conspiratorial, some of the other known facts about the case suggest critics aren\u2019t wrong to be so paranoid and worked up.<\/p>\n<p>For one, Kandula seemed like a genuinely dangerous guy, so why would prosecutors go that easy on him?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had allegedly planned the attack for six months, with his goal to \u2018get to the White House, seize power, and be put in charge of the nation,\u2019 records show. Kandula was accused of threatening to \u2018Kill the President If that\u2019s what I have to do,\u2019 and praised Nazism and Hitler,\u201d the Post notes.<\/p>\n<p>For another, after the ramming incident occurred on Monday, many in the media rushed to portray it as a vile \u201cwhite supremacist\u201d attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[F]or so, so long, we\u2019ve been hearing not only from the president but even the FBI director that white supremacism, far right-wing extremists are the biggest threat to this country and its safety. Because some of those folks were carrying the same sort of symbols, Nazi flags, Confederate flags, things like that, that show you a commonality of ideology,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Yet all these comparisons quickly disappeared once Kandula\u2019s identity was uncovered.
