The United States is sending a $300 military aid package to Ukraine, including, for the first time, short-range air-launched rockets, deepening its involvement in the war in defiance of repeated warnings by Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two US officials said on Tuesday the package includes Hydra 70 rockets, which are unguided projectiles fired from aircraft, Reuters<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n

It also includes artillery rounds, 155-mm Howitzer cannons, anti-tank missiles and mortars as Ukrainian officials say they are planning a counteroffensive.<\/p>\n

The Pentagon has also sent at least 20\u00a0High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) to Ukraine. HIMARS systems,\u00a0which are made by Lockheed Martin, are intended to be a \u201ccore component of Ukraine\u2019s fighting force in the future,\u201d according to a senior US\u00a0defense official told reporters.<\/p>\n

The funds for the new military shipment to Ukraine were provided once more by using the Presidential Drawdown Authority, or PDA, by which the President of the United States can legally authorize the shipment of military equipment and services from US stocks without gaining congressional approval in response to an emergency.<\/p>\n

The package brings the total amount of US military aid to about $36 billion dollars.<\/p>\n

The US and its Western allies have kept feeding Ukraine with massive amounts of arms since the start of the war last year.<\/p>\n

Moscow has time and again warned that military assistance will only prolong the war and add to the suffering of the Ukrainian people.<\/p>\n

US President Joe Biden has said he expects American aid to Ukraine will continue without interruption despite opposition by Republicans.<\/p>\n

Republican lawmakers have voiced concerns about the haphazard military shipments to Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said Washington\u2019s military aid to Ukraine was a US-led \u201cproxy war\u201d against Russia.<\/p>\n

She said the Ukraine war had placed a heavy financial burden on the shoulders of Americans, who were already grappling with poverty.<\/p>\n

However, the lawmaker also admitted that war was \u201ca deadly profitable industry\u201d for the US government.<\/p>\n

Last month, a group of 19 Republican lawmakers in the US Senate and House of Representatives called on President Biden to try seeking a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine conflict rather than insisting on extending the war by supplying billions of dollars in weaponry to Kiev.<\/p>\n

\u201cA proxy war with Russia in Ukraine is not in the strategic interest of the United States and risks an escalation that could spiral out of control,\u201d said Senators Mike Lee of Utah, Rand Paul of Kentucky and other Republican legislators in a\u00a0letter<\/a>\u00a0sent to Biden on Thursday<\/p>\n

\u201cUnrestrained US aid for Ukraine must come to an end, and we will adamantly oppose all future aid packages unless they are linked to a clear diplomatic strategy designed to bring this war to a rapid conclusion,\u201d read the formal letter, further insisting that \u201cour national and economic security demand an alternative.\u201d<\/p>\n
