Insider.com<\/a> (April 30, 2023):<\/p>\n The Wall Street Journal, in\u00a0an exclusive published Sunday, said it had obtained Epstein’s private calendar, which outlined numerous meetings with high-profile people, including Chomsky, the famed academic and political activist. When the Journal reached out to Chomsky for comment, the linguist had some choice words.<\/p>\n \u201cFirst response is that it is none of your business. Or anyone\u2019s. Second is that I knew him and we met occasionally,\u201d Chomsky, 94, told the Journal in an email.<\/p>\n None of your business. Perhaps that was an ill-advised remark. Delivered in haste. Because the Great Man of Linguistics\u2019 contemplations and ruminations on the origin of language in babies had been interrupted on the back porch of the rest home by the sudden intrusive inquiry from the Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n Insider:<\/p>\n Epstein\u2019s meetings with Chomsky appear to have taken place in 2015 and 2016, according to the Journal. Epstein was first\u00a0charged\u00a0with procuring minors for prostitution and\u00a0registered as a sex offender\u00a0in 2008.<\/p>\n In March 2015, Epstein scheduled meetings with Chomsky and a Harvard University professor, the Journal reported. Chomsky confirmed for the paper that there were several meetings where they discussed various topics.<\/p>\n Discussed various topics. With the convicted and registered sex offender. Which topics? How various? Narrowly various? Widely various? Just asking.<\/p>\n Insider:<\/p>\n The Journal reported that months later, according to the calendar, Epstein scheduled a flight with Chomsky and his wife for a planned dinner with movie director Woody Allen and his wife, Soon-Yi Previn, who is also the adopted daughter of his ex-partner, Mia Farrow.<\/p>\n \u201cIf there was a flight, which I doubt, it would have been from Boston to New York, 30 minutes,\u201d Chomsky told the Journal. \u201cI\u2019m unaware of the principle that requires that I inform you about an evening spent with a great artist.\u201d<\/p>\n A great artist. Rembrandt? Van Gogh? Oh, Woody Allen. Right.<\/p>\n Is there a principle that would compel Chomsky to be forthcoming if he had spent the evening with an ordinary artist?<\/p>\n \u201cGreat artist\u201d gets him off the hook?<\/p>\n Insider:<\/p>\n Chomsky said he discussed politics and academics in his meetings with Epstein. Epstein donated at least $850,000 between 2002 and 2017 to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where\u00a0Chomsky taught\u00a0for decades.<\/p>\n Aha.
