The Biden administration has finally recognized this and is out to lower expectations and to preemptively blame everyone but itself.<\/p>\n<p>The first to be briefed was <em>Politico<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/04\/24\/biden-ukraine-russia-counteroffensive-defense-00093384\">Biden\u2019s team fears the aftermath of a failed Ukrainian counteroffensive<\/a><br \/>\n<em>Behind closed doors, the administration worries about what Ukraine can accomplish.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Times<\/em> joined in:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/04\/24\/us\/politics\/ukraine-russia-war-spring-offensive.html\">Ukraine\u2019s Spring Offensive Comes With Immense Stakes for Future of the War<\/a><br \/>\n<em>Without a decisive victory, Western support for Ukraine could weaken, and Kyiv could come under increasing pressure to enter serious peace talks to end or freeze the conflict.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From the <em>Politico<\/em> piece:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Publicly, President Joe Biden\u2019s team has offered unwavering support for Ukraine, pledging to load it up with weapons and economic aid for \u201cas long as it takes.\u201d But, if the impending fighting season yields limited gains, administration officials have expressed privately they fear being faced with a two-headed monster attacking it from the hawkish and dovish ends of the spectrum.One side will say that Ukraine\u2019s advances would\u2019ve worked had the administration given Kyiv everything it asked for, namely longer-range missiles, fighter jets and more air defenses.
