The Biden administration has accused Russia of providing advanced military equipment to Iran, including air defense systems, helicopters, and fighter jets, as part of deepening cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>The commander of the Iranian Air Force reported back in the fall that the purchase of Russian Su-30 fighter aircraft, which was planned earlier, has now given way to plans for the purchase of Su-35 fighter jets.<\/p>\n<p>Back in December 2022, Western intelligence <a href=\"https:\/\/mil.in.ua\/uk\/news\/iran-vede-peregovory-pro-zakupivlyu-v-rosiyi-vynyshhuvachiv-su-35\/\">reported<\/a> that Russia was going to hand over Su-35 fighter jets to Iran in exchange for military assistance. Russia also <a href=\"https:\/\/mil.in.ua\/en\/news\/russia-trains-iranian-pilots-on-su-35-fighters\/\">trained Iranian pilots<\/a> to operate the Su-35 fighter jet.<\/p>\n<p>In March, the Permanent Mission of Iran to the <a href=\"https:\/\/mil.in.ua\/en\/news\/iran-announced-the-completion-of-the-purchase-contract-for-the-russian-su-35\/\">UN announced the completion of a contract with Russia<\/a> to purchase Russian Su-35 fighter jets. The value of the contract and the number of fighter jets were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, these planes were intended for Egypt, and Moscow and Cairo signed the contract for their supply in early 2019. The value of the deal was estimated at $ 2 billion. However, later Egypt refused the aircraft, probably due to problems with the flight characteristics of the Russian Su-35.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, 21 Su-35 fighter jets, which were assigned to Egypt, were stationed on the territory of the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant named after Yu.A. Gagarin.<\/p>\n<p>Moscow and Tehran could agree on the supply of fighter jets in exchange for help in the war with Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mil.in.ua\/en\/news\/iran-started-receiving-russian-su-35-fighter-jets\/\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Note \u2013 April 23, 2023<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Egypt backed out of the deal to buy a squadron of Russian Su35 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.africa\/2022\/09\/egypts-sukhoi-su-35es-sold-to-iran-due-to-us-pressure\/\">due to U.S. pressure<\/a>. Hence, Cairo didn\u2019t finalize the deal because of problems with the flight characteristics of the Su-35s but because of U.S. interference.
