The statement said the Russian pilots sought to disrupt the US aircraft before the collision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral times before the collision, the Su-27s dumped fuel on and flew in front of the MQ-9 in a reckless, environmentally unsound and unprofessional manner,\u201d the US statement said. \u201cThis incident demonstrates a lack of competence in addition to being unsafe and unprofessional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the Russian fighters then struck the drone\u2019s propeller, \u201ccausing US forces to have to bring the MQ-9 down in international waters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2023\/mar\/14\/russian-fighter-jet-collides-us-drone-black-sea-crash\">Continues &#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Russia comments on US drone crash in Black Sea<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>RT.com &#8212; March 14, 2023<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday denied claims by the US military that a Russian interceptor came into contact with the American MQ-9 drone over the Black Sea, causing it to crash.<\/p>\n<p>The UAV was flying towards the Russian border without a transponder active, in clear violation of the restricted area established for the conduct of the special military operation, the ministry said. Two interceptors were dispatched to investigate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result of sharp maneuvers around 9:30am Moscow time, the MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle went into uncontrolled flight, lost altitude, and collided with the water surface. The Russian fighters did not use weapons, did not come into contact with the UAV, and returned safely to their home base,\u201d the defense ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Moscow\u2019s comment came after the US European Command (EUCOM) accused the Russian jets of \u201can unsafe and unprofessional intercept\u201d of the drone. The Americans claimed their spy drone was operating in international airspace when a pair of Su-27 jets appeared, sprayed it with fuel, and \u201cstruck the propeller\u201d of the UAV, which caused it to crash into the sea.
