The New York Times (NYT) article referred to below by RT.com is a measure of how far the Western mainstream media has sunk. The article is not journalism but disinformation, which is being used by the U.S. covert agencies behind the Nord Stream blasts to cover their tracks.<\/p>\n

To add insult to injury, the New York Times probably knows this but publishes these claims, without qualification or proviso anyway.<\/p>\n

Based on “Unspecified new intelligence” from an “unnamed sources”, the NYT’s is at pains to emphasize that \u201cno American or British nationals were involved\u201d.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the NYT’s source is also keen to point out that President Joe Biden and his top aides \u201cdid not authorize\u201d the attack.<\/p>\n

In other words, the NYT attempts to refute all the points made by Seymour Hersh in his recent investigative report on the Nord Stream blast.<\/p>\n

That’s why the NYT and many other Western MSM outlets didn’t publish Hersh’s report in the first place. Instead, Hersh published his latest revelations privately on the Internet, and this is the MSM’s response. Ed.<\/p>\n

Unspecified new intelligence \u201csuggests that a pro-Ukrianian group\u201d<\/em> was behind the September 2022 attack on Nord Stream pipelines, the New York Times reported<\/a> on Tuesday, quoting anonymous US officials.<\/p>\n

The Times\u2019 unnamed sources said they \u201cbelieved the saboteurs were most likely Ukrainian or Russian nationals, or some combination of the two\u201d<\/em> and that \u201cno American or British nationals were involved.\u201d<\/em> They further said they had no evidence Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky or his \u201ctop lieutenants\u201d<\/em> were involved, or that the \u201cany Ukrainian government officials\u201d<\/em> directed the attack.<\/p>\n

The anonymous officials could not say who directed or paid for the \u201coperation,\u201d<\/em> and said it was possible the attack \u201cmight have been conducted off the books by a proxy force with connections to the Ukrainian government or its security services.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The bombs that tore apart three of four pipeline strings at the bottom of the Baltic Sea were \u201cmost likely\u201d<\/em> planted by experienced divers, \u201cwho did not appear to be working for military or intelligence services,\u201d<\/em> but may have received \u201cspecialized government training in the past,\u201d<\/em> the anonymous officials claimed.<\/p>\n

They also said US President Joe Biden and his top aides \u201cdid not authorize\u201d<\/em> the attack on Nord Stream and that \u201cthere was no US involvement\u201d<\/em> in the blasts. These statements directly address last month\u2019s report<\/a> by investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, who accused the US of ordering the bombing and planting the explosives.<\/p>\n

While Western European officials also believe the attack was state-sponsored,\u00a0 \u201cUS officials have not stated publicly that they believe the operation was sponsored by a state,\u201d<\/em> the Times noted.<\/p>\n

Some officials see \u201cUkraine and its allies\u201d<\/em> as having \u201cthe most logical potential motive\u201d<\/em> to destroy the pipelines. It was unclear who they meant by allies; though Poland has been the most outspoken critic of Nord Stream, the US and the entire NATO bloc have sent more than $100 billion worth of weapons and other aid to Kiev over the past year.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny findings that put blame on Kyiv or Ukrainian proxies could prompt a backlash in Europe and make it harder for the West to maintain a united front in support of Ukraine,\u201d<\/em> the Times reporters noted.<\/p>\n

The Nord Stream explosions happened five weeks after the Moscow car bombing that killed Russian journalist Darya Dugina. Anonymous US spies told the Times<\/a> last October they believed \u201celements\u201d<\/em> within the Ukrainian government \u2013 but not Zelensky \u2013 were responsible, but declined to name anyone. Kiev has officially denied any responsibility whatsoever.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the Nord Stream operation, there was hushed speculation \u2013 and worry \u2013 in Washington that parts of the Ukrainian government might have been involved in that operation as well,\u201d<\/em> the Times reported on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The anonymous officials who spoke to the paper said there was \u201cno evidence so far\u201d<\/em> the Ukrainian government was involved, and that President Joe Biden\u2019s trust in Zelensky \u201chas been steadily increasing.\u201d<\/em> The Times did acknowledge that American intelligence has \u201climited visibility into Ukrainian decision-making,\u201d<\/em> despite Kiev\u2019s \u201cdeep dependence\u201d<\/em> on the US.<\/p>\n
