However, this week NBC News chief international correspondent Keir Simmons went to Sevastopol, surrounded by a significant Russian military presence given it is home to the Russian Navy\u2019s Black Sea Fleet, and in a live segment admitted that it\u2019s\u00a0not at all realistic Zelensky and Ukrainian forces can ever hope to take Crimea.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is especially as the \u201cthe people there\u2026\u00a0<strong>view themselves as Russian<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0Simmons noted that \u201cThis is the closest that any US news crew has got to the Russian Black Sea Fleet in many many years.\u201d He explained that \u201cVladimir Putin will be determined to defend that port \u2013 to not have it take it away from him \u2013\u00a0<strong>he may well do pretty much anything to try to achieve that<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: NBC News \/ MSNBC concedes that Zelensky\u2019s goal of retaking Crimea is unrealistic and dangerous.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fb2RCRBHOn\">pic.twitter.com\/fb2RCRBHOn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; David Sacks (@DavidSacks) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DavidSacks\/status\/1631052325266632705?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 1, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a very, very dangerous standoff.. it\u2019s hard to see how you reach a negotiation over that. There\u2019s military absolutely everywhere, it is a military town,\u201d he continued, before saying\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen for example Victoria Nuland talks about that at the very least we [the US] want Crimea to be demilitarized,\u00a0<strong>I find myself standing there and wondering, how on earth does that happen?<\/strong>\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian officials and pro-Kyiv media pundits are said to be outraged at the segment, given it repeatedly and bluntly referenced that Crimeans see themselves as Russians. Even a separate write-up filed days earlier from inside Crimea and posted to NBC\u2019s website included\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/inside-crimea-russian-military-annexed-ukraine-retake-putin-rcna72606\">the following<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 36.0pt; margin-left: 36.0pt;\"><em>This is not Russia, according to Kyiv, its Western allies and the United Nations. It was annexed by the Kremlin in 2014, with the U.N. calling on Russia to return to its \u201cinternationally recognized borders.\u201d And following Moscow\u2019s broader invasion launched a year ago, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has vowed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/biden-putin-speeches-ukraine-war-offensive-russia-nato-rcna71397\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ukraine will take Crimea back<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 36.0pt; margin-left: 36.0pt;\"><em>But Praskovya Baranova, 73,\u00a0<\/em><strong><i>speaks Russian, feels Russian and lives here<\/i><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 11.25pt;\">But it appears that the NBC correspondent, once he was on the ground in a place that few Western reporters ever venture, couldn\u2019t deny the plain truth he was seeing all around him.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NBC told Americans the truth about Crimea for the first time and its reporter wound up on the Ukrainian government\u2019s kill list alongside several other US citizens, journos, clergy and even children. <\/p>\n<p>Will NBC now report on this list? Will \u201cpress freedom\u201d groups denounce it? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rHLxjYdqos\">https:\/\/t.co\/rHLxjYdqos<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Max Blumenthal (@MaxBlumenthal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MaxBlumenthal\/status\/1631124426463879171?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 2, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>David Sacks comments of the refreshingly truthful segment,\u00a0<strong>\u201cNot long ago, these were denounced as Putin talking points.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sacks also says regarding\u00a0NBC clearly conceding that Zelensky\u2019s goal of retaking Crimea remains unrealistic and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DavidSacks\/status\/1631052975425609739\">dangerous<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 36.0pt; margin-left: 36.0pt;\"><em>This is a huge admission because it means that Biden\u2019s policy of \u201conly the Ukrainians can decide\u201d the objectives of the war makes no sense.\u00a0<\/em><strong><i>We\u2019re effectively delegating our foreign policy to Zelensky, who is pursuing objectives that we don\u2019t agree with<\/i><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time that MSNBC is suddenly airing the truth about Crimea, its chief Ukraine pundit is lobbying for an all-out attack,\u201d Sacks also observes of the timing of the mid-week report.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s getting easier to see who are the real fanatics in this war,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Sacks concluded.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/summit.news\/2023\/03\/03\/nbc-reporter-goes-to-crimea-shocks-viewers-by-telling-the-truth\/\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ukrainian officials and pro-Kyiv media pundits are said to be outraged by the report.
