As far as Russia and most of Melitopol’s residents are concerned it is part of Russia.

The Guardian’s misrepresentation is bad enough because it obscures the fact that the rocket attack amounts to an attack on Russia itself. However, making matters even worse is the fact that the attack was carried out using U.S. supplied HIMARS rocket launchers.

To put that in perspective: imagine if Russia was supplying missiles to Mexican insurgents who were claiming part of Texas belonged to Mexico. You can imagine the uproar in the U.S. media if that were to happen.

Well, this amounts to the same thing but for one crucial element that the Guardian omits to mention and which may make matters even worse.

That crucial element is who was operating the HIMARS launchers that targeted Melitopol? Were they Ukrainian troops? Or were they as others have suggested Western “security contractors”?

As Brian Berletic has explained, it takes months to properly train soldiers to operate a HIMARS system accurately. Making it more than likely that Western mercenaries launched the rockets that struck Melitopol on Saturday night.

So, in effect we have Western “security contractors” launching U.S. supplied rockets at a town whose inhabitants and Moscow consider to be part of Russia.

If this doesn’t seem like it has the potential to escalate into something much bigger then I don’t know what does. Although you might not realise the potential magnitude of what’s unfolding from the following Guardian report.
