{"id":261445,"date":"2022-11-20T07:17:38","date_gmt":"2022-11-20T07:17:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=261445"},"modified":"2022-11-21T08:00:27","modified_gmt":"2022-11-21T08:00:27","slug":"activists-fear-major-iran-crackdown-in-kurdish-populated-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=261445","title":{"rendered":"Activists Fear Major Iran Crackdown In Kurdish-populated Town"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>AFP \u2013 Nov 20, 2022<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Activists on Sunday expressed alarm that Iran was implementing a major crackdown in a Kurdish-populated town that has seen intense anti-regime protests in the last few days.<\/p>\n<p>Reinforcements of the security forces were sent to the city of Mahabad in western Iran, rights groups said, while images and audio files of heavy gunfire and screams were posted overnight.<\/p>\n<p>Iran&#8217;s clerical leadership has been shaken by more than two months of protests sparked by the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year old woman of Kurdish origin who had been arrested by the Tehran morality police.<\/p>\n<p>The very first protests took place in Kurdish-populated areas of Iran including at Amini&#8217;s funeral in her home town of Saqez, before spreading nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Rights groups had earlier posted footage of defiant protests in Mahabad, including after the funerals of victims of the state&#8217;s crackdown on the protests, with people staging sit-ins in the streets and setting up barricades.<\/p>\n<p>The Norway-based Hengaw rights group said &#8220;armed troops&#8221; had been despatched to Mahabad from Urmia, the main city of West Azerbaijan province.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In Mahabad&#8217;s residential areas, there is a lot of gunfire,&#8221; it wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">PLEASE WATCH WITH SOUND ON!<\/p>\n<p>The Islamic Republic is conducting a massacre in the city of Mahabad which is majority Kurdish!<\/p>\n<p>They are shooting at people and into homes!<\/p>\n<p>They have cut the electricity!<\/p>\n<p>The people of Iran need your attention urgently!<\/p>\n<p>Please do not turn away!
