This article isn’t posted as an endorsement but as a warning. After all, any article that talks about the “remarkable success of the mRNA vaccine” has got to be suspect.<\/p>\n

If they are talking about the sheer number of deaths and adverse effects it has caused then the mRNA vaccine has indeed been a “remarkable success”. One of the most recent estimates put the death toll from the Covid vaccine at 20 million and climbing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But of course, that’s not what the following TIME magazine article is talking about. They want you to believe that the mRNA technology has proven itself in the Covid vaccine so that you will dutifully line up for the mRNA flu vaccine.<\/p>\n

With the “remarkable success of the mRNA vaccine” with Covid-19, TIME Magazine is preparing the way for another vaccination program.<\/p>\n

Will you be gullible enough to comply?<\/p>\n

After the remarkable success of the mRNA vaccines<\/a> in protecting people against COVID-19, scientists are turning their attention next to another annual respiratory scourge: influenza. Both Moderna<\/a> and Pfizer\u2014makers of the first vaccines to earn U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval using the mRNA technology\u2014are studying whether subbing in the influenza virus\u2019 genetic material in that platform will prove equally fruitful.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 14, Pfizer announced<\/a> that the first volunteers had received doses of its mRNA flu shot; the Phase 3 study will involve more than 25,000 adults in the U.S. ages 18 and up who will be randomly assigned to receive either the experimental vaccine or a placebo. In June, Moderna announced<\/a> its late-stage trial of an mRNA-based influenza vaccine that targets the same flu strains that are expected to circulate this fall and winter. Moderna\u2019s study will involve 6,000 adults in the U.S. and other countries in the southern hemisphere, which experiences its flu season several months before the U.S. Both trials are now at similar stages; neither company has provided a timeline for when they might expect results, and, if those results are positive, when they might submit a request to the FDA for approval.<\/p>\n

Public health experts are hoping it won\u2019t be long, however. The advantage of the mRNA platform is that it\u2019s flexible and generalizable. Theoretically, scientists only need to switch out the genetic material, or mRNA sequences, from one virus for another. It\u2019s a matter of figuring out which specific genes will activate the immune system the best\u2014and that\u2019s where researchers have decades of experience with influenza that they didn\u2019t have with SARS-CoV-2.<\/p>\n
