{"id":258315,"date":"2022-09-06T07:07:31","date_gmt":"2022-09-06T07:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=258315"},"modified":"2022-09-07T07:41:33","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T07:41:33","slug":"eu-countries-are-running-out-of-weapons-says-borrell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=258315","title":{"rendered":"EU countries are running out of weapons, says Borrell"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Wilhelmine Preussen \u2013 Politico Sept 5, 2022<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>EU countries\u2019 stocks of weapons are severely \u201cdepleted\u201d in the wake of sending arms to Ukraine, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell warned Monday.<\/p>\n<p>During a debate with EU lawmakers, the top diplomat urged member states to replenish their arsenals, saying that the best way of doing so is \u201ctogether,\u201d because that would \u201cbe cheaper.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Borrell also admitted that the EU should have begun training Ukrainian troops a year ago when some member states called for it, saying if that had happened, \u201cwe would be in a better situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, an EU-level military training mission in Ukraine was discussed at an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-ukraine-train-army\/\">informal meeting of European defense ministers<\/a> in Prague, as well as better pooling of military equipment and resources.<\/p>\n<p>In July, the EU increased military support funding to Ukraine by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-increase-military-support-ukraine-josep-borrell\/\">\u20ac500 million.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since the beginning of Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine, the EU has provided about \u20ac<a href=\"https:\/\/commonslibrary.parliament.uk\/research-briefings\/cbp-9477\/\">2.5 billion worth<\/a> of military assistance to Ukraine through the so-called European Peace Facility, with some of the weapons coming from the countries\u2019 own stocks.<\/p>\n<p>Warnings about empty stocks have also come from member countries.
