Now the Oscar-winning actress is benefiting from Baltimore police protection after drug dealers threatened gun violence on the set of her new Apple TV+ series.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the Baltimore production of her Apple TV+ series <em>Lady in the Lake<\/em> was suspended after drug dealers\u00a0reportedly threatened to shoot somebody if production didn\u2019t stop. They also demanded producers pay $50,000 before production would be allowed to continue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working with the Baltimore Police Department as the investigation is ongoing,\u201d the studio behind the series, Endeavor Content, said in a statement <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/08\/lady-in-the-lake-apple-plus-series-forced-to-halt-production-after-extortion-threats-from-baltimore-locals-1235101762\/\">sent<\/a> to Deadline.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The production of the TV series Lady in the Lake was halted on Friday after drug dealers threatened to shoot someone at the downtown Baltimore film set and tried to extort its producers for money, the Baltimore Banner reported on Saturday. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/P3KC60SXxO\">https:\/\/t.co\/P3KC60SXxO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; WJZ | CBS Baltimore (@wjz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wjz\/status\/1563685314538967040?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 28, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Two years ago, at the height of the Black Lives Matter riots, Natalie Portman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2020\/06\/09\/natalie-portman-when-i-first-heard-defund-the-police-i-was-afraid-because-of-my-white-privilege\/\">penned a\u00a0lengthy message<\/a> on her official Instagram account in which she explained how she overcame her initial doubts about the \u201cdefund the police\u201d movement, saying she didn\u2019t realize her \u201cwhite privilege.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I first heard #defundthepolice, I have to admit my first reaction was fear. My whole life, police have made me feel safe. As Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/crime\/2022\/06\/01\/baltimore-mayor-media-perpetuates-violence-personal-responsibility-key-to-lowering-crime\/\">reported<\/a>,\u00a0Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott (D) recently blamed the media for perpetuating violence in the city.
