{"id":257595,"date":"2022-08-20T06:24:48","date_gmt":"2022-08-20T06:24:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=257595"},"modified":"2022-08-22T07:13:47","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T07:13:47","slug":"russia-deploys-hypersonic-missiles-to-its-baltic-territory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=257595","title":{"rendered":"Russia deploys hypersonic missiles to its Baltic territory"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Associated Press \u2013 Aug 18, 2022<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>The Russian military said Thursday it deployed aircraft armed with state-of-the-art <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2020\/10\/07\/russia-reports-successful-test-launch-of-hypersonic-missile\/\">hypersonic missiles<\/a> to the country\u2019s Kaliningrad region, a move that comes amid soaring tension with the West over Moscow\u2019s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s Defense Ministry said three MiG-31 fighters with Kinzhal hypersonic missiles arrived at the Chkalovsk air base in the Baltic Sea territory as part of \u201cadditional measures of strategic deterrence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ministry said the aircraft will be put on round-the-clock alert.<\/p>\n<p>A video released by the ministry showed the fighters arriving at the base but not carrying the missiles, which were apparently delivered separately.<\/p>\n<p>The deployment of Kinzhal missiles to Kaliningrad as Russia\u2019s campaign in Ukraine nears the sixth-month mark appeared intended to showcase the Russian military\u2019s capability to threaten NATO assets. The region borders NATO members Poland and Lithuania.<\/p>\n<p>Moscow has strongly criticized the deliveries of Western weapons to Ukraine, accusing the U.S. and its allies of fueling the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian military says the Kinzhal has a range of up to 2,000 kilometers (1,243 miles) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/asia-pacific\/2021\/03\/15\/hypersonic-and-directed-energy-weapons-who-has-them-and-whos-winning-the-race-in-the-asia-pacific\/\">flies at 10 times the speed of sound<\/a>, making it difficult to intercept. Russia has used the weapon to strike several targets in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Kaliningrad\u2019s location has put it in the forefront of Moscow\u2019s efforts to counter what it described as NATO\u2019s hostile policies.
